Not been on for ages sorry but so fustrated as just can't sell house.

Just fell so down at the moment and I am trying so hard not to.

Can't afford to go without selling house and can't rent as need the money.

We have reduced it 2 times and can't afford to go any lower.

Sometimes it helps to chat to people who are in the same situation.

we put ou house on the ,arket just before xmas as i was told i would be getting a job offer.

i have the offer but need to sell the house before we can go; not sure how long the company will wait neither.

hopefullt hings will move on for us both in this new year

Went on the market last week so early days. Don't need to sell before leaving but it would make it easier, otherwise we'll need to come home to pack & move out!

My house has been on the market for over 12 months now, we need the money but are saving like crazy to let it out if necessary and go with enough cash to get by for a year, thats the plan anyway.So frustrating, especially when you get media bombardment all the time about how great it is in Aus......WE KNOW!!!!!!

Ours has been on the market for 18 months we have had a number of viewers but nothing. We are going to drop it again next month (or when the snow goes) by £10k.
We have to sell to pay debts and have a little money to go with as we don't have jobs to go to.

Hi there your not alone

We came bk from Adelaide 2007 bought the house were in now, spent near 30,000 of our own money on it, now its worth what we payed for it before the renovations!!! and you say your depressed.

We are looking at renting it out, but to be honest I dont want to do that, but may have no choice if we want to return to OZ before visas expire.

So if we do rent it out not only will we have to get a loan, we will have to send money bk here (UK) to cover insurances etc. its all very depressing, feel like just going bk to OZ & giving the keys bk to the mortgage lender!

We just got our visa last thursday so the house was put up for sale the same day. We're gonna try selling it ourselves (my home-made sign is class!!!) and had a viewing last night. The girl wants to bring her mum around for a look so heres hoping!!

Not wanting to put any more of a dampner on but for those who've been trying to sell for a year, the value of the £'s you would have cleared 12 months ago had you sold now buys about 20-30% less Australian $'s than at that time.

This applies to me too and dwarfs any drop in price my house may have suffered.

We're still waiting to sell ours! My hubby's new job in Brisbane/Gold Coast starts in April, so its getting close!!

We've started talking and planning about me staying in UK until the house is sold! Something we'd rather not do as going to the airport twice to say goodbye to family etc.. is going to be hard enough!!!!

We've gone joint agency and hope this will help with selling as its been on the market since September.

We're not keen on renting as need all our equity to take with us.

Hoping everything will fall into place!

That was us in late 2009. We simply bit the bullet and came over anyway.

Our house was listed for sale and for rent simultaneously, with two different companies. Eventually the rental agency got us a tenant, so we'll keep it for a while yet.

We are pretty much the same Hubby has been out of work 14 months; having said that he has been decorating to enable us to go on sale (we hadn't of touched the place since we had moved in some 15 years ago!!)

We went on sale in late November and accepted an offer just before Christmas. We now sit and wait

We too cannot do a thing as all the money is tied up in the property, we also need to pay off debts etc. and don't expect to go with shed loads of money, but enough to "hopefully" see us ok for 6 months.

We have had our Visa since Nov 2008.

When are you planning to sell Vash, as you'll get taxed by the ATO when you bring the cash into Oz as apposed to taking in with you when you moved over?

Are you sure this is the case if the UK house is his primary residence?

I think you can ask the ATO for a ruling on how long they give you to bring your £££s into Oz (say 12 months). After that you will most certainly get taxed on money brought in at the difference between what the house was worth when you moved to Oz and the price you sold it for.

If you buy a house in Oz then your UK house is no longer your primary (owned) residence and will be subject to tax on selling (after a period of time).

Trouble is that if they do take it, and don't get enough money to pay what you owe off, they may be able to come after you for the rest.
