Re: who else can't sell house in Uk and has visa
I can empathise with everyone (look back at some of my posts on this thread)
To the OP who's house has been on the market 2 years. Our house was also! But we have excepted an offer and all is progressing smoothly. Our house was originally over the 300k mark, we had plenty of views, some offers (they could not sell theirs) We dropped to under 300K. However we have not made a loss, in fact a good profit and we thank our lucky stars! I really hope you sell soon and get a good buyer regardless of the government situation!
I found the house sale more stressful than waiting for the visa! Anyway, good luck to all, its not a nice situation to be in.

Well done to everyone who is having good news with their house sales/offers Just wondered what people generally do when their contract with the current agent expires - do you renew or look elsewhere? We're generally happy with our agents but everything seems to have gone very quiet just now! We are up against a time-scale as we fly on the 30th June and agreed all along that we would let if the house didn't sell. (but we would prefer to sell) Is it worth changing agents - is this likely to get us more interest or do people generally scour all the agents in the area anyway?

No harm in telling them that you are disappointed with the lack of activity and are planning to go elsewhere and see what it does....at least use it as a way to lower their rate!!
All the best.

The thing that makes us laugh is the fact that our 16 house estate took less than a year to sell, but to one (ours) it has been 2 years an counting. Saying that, it only takes one person to buy any house - fingers crossed for us all.

Was it agent specific? I thought it belonged to the to seller no matter where it came from.

As far as I was aware as long as you stayed with the same agent you were ok, but if you changed agents you had to renew it after a year.

The house has been on the market for 2 years now, views but no takers. The fustrating thing is since we reduced the price (20k in Feb this year) we have had no views at all, but at the higher price we had loads.
It is annoying now, we cannot afford to reduce it for a while now as we need the profit off it to pay debts before we leave else we will become the one's who leave their dept and run (it has crossed my mind at times but we won't).

Hey guys well house is finally on the market, we have had 10 viewings so far so fingers crossed, hubby's employer in oz has been e-mailing us asking when we are returning, i feel he is getting a little restless which is only fair as he has kept his job open since august, so we have decided just to go for it and if house doesnt sell in time then we will just get a small loan to tied us by for now as we werent planning on exchanging a lot from house sale as the exchange rate is so bad. Been ringing round for removal quotes and are hoping to ship in the next 6 weeks, good luck to everyone else, will attach pics of house which hubby has done all by himself.

Wow - he has been busy Can you send him round to ours?? It seems you're in a similar situation to us. We were a week away from exchange though and our buyers pulled the plug! We've been back on the market for 3 weeks but no decent offers or people in a position to proceed as yet! But we always decided we were gonna just go as we felt we didn't want to have our Australia dream on hold any longer! Flights are booked for June 30th (yay) and we are going regardless! We will continue to try to sell from Australia and then if all else fails, we will let it out (but seriously hoping that won't be necessary!) Good luck to you - hope you get that elusive speedy sale
Oh wow hope everything works out, will u still be paying ur mortgage from oz? i wasnt sure what we could do whether you can take a break from repayments etc, when we moved in 2007 we just had to rent it out as there was no way of affording the mortgage but after having tenants trash house i wont be making that mistake again so will just have to hold out till it sells. good luck too

Good luck you two.
The couple that made an offer on our house wanted to move in on 1st July. No way could it be done and would have cost us loads of money, so that fell through.
Since then it's been quiet. Probably going to lower our asking price now (today).
