who can sign a statutory declaration

:o Can anyone please tell me who can sign a statutory declaration?

We have just been told by our agent we need to get loads of statutory dec's filled out by friends and family to confirm or defacto relationship.

Oh... and can any one tell me what they mean when they ask you to prove how you support each other 'physicaly'

This could get a tad embarrasing.

shona,
you can do your own stat decs but they have to be signed by a solicitor/ someone in the law profession and have to begin with the words I XXXXXXXXXXX of XXXXXXXXXXX do hereby solemny and sincerely declare as follows.

it then has to finish with the words

AND I MAKE THIS declaration conscientiously believing the same to be true and by the virtue of the provisions of the statutory declarations act 1835
decalred by the said xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

this xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx day ofxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx2007

before me

solicitor

hope this helps, cant help your second q but good luck:)

here in Oz I asked my local chemist to sign mine.
Also a postal officer with 5 years service is acceptable- it probably provides a list of acceptable occupations on the DIMIA (or whatever it is now called) website

Hi Shona

We got a solicitor to sign it.

There is a form that our agent provided, it was numbered 1 - 9 (i think). Your agent should have this pro-forma.

We had to say that we have joint bank accounts and share our household chores together (yeh right!), share financial responsibilities, socialise with both sets of friends together and separately as our relationship is stong. That although we are not married we see our future together and are ploughing funds jointly into our future and will marry in Australia. We had to admit that we do many things joint but some our finances were separate because we had 2 houses and it seemed silly to give 1/2 to each other in thes circs. We mentioned that we have attended weddings, christenings etc together

We got ours done by parents only and of course ours. They basically mirrored ours with a few changes in words (perhaps cos we wrote them and got them to sign them).

It is a tad embarrassing as what else can you say but you met each other fancied each other and then s****ed like rabbits. We put it that we met, dated then saw a long relationship developing and then moved in together.

We kept it to a page. I think it is solicitor, public notary or magistrate. The solicitor we popped into admitted he was going to pocket it for beer money. We phoned and popped there that afternoon and I think it cost us about 20quid. If you phone around a couple then you can guage prices.

good luck
:)

There is a big difference between "acceptable occupations" in Australia versus overseas.

ALso teachers and chartered accountants - look for the forms on the immigration website - Im pretty sure there is a list on the forms which should help you.
I recently provided evidence for a friend of ours who is applying for the same visa - I just wrote down what I knew about their relationship and then got a friend of mine to sign the forms who has a job on the list.

I just had a search about and found the Attorney- General's Department for Oz, It has a big long list of folk who can sign it.

Includes-
Dentist
Nurse
Optometrist
Pharmacist
Psycologist
Vet

there are loads more, but I couldn't copy the web address, worth a look though, could be cheaper than paying a solicitor, you could time it with your next dental appointment. After he has inflicted pain  I'm sure he would sign anything to make you feel better.

We never had anyone sign ours. Just got friends and family to write a letter saying they had known us as a couple for X amount of time.

Didn't think they needed signed by anyone.

What's there to be confused about? In the UK, you make a statutory declaration in front of a solicitor, notary or JP.

Don't try to use other professions, such as doctor, nurse, policeman, bank manager etc (unless you want it to be rejected).

It's not complicated - unless you choose to make it so.

shona, only a jp or solicitor can sign a stat dec as it is an oath.
any of the other professions mentioned in this thread can sign certified copies of documents.
general statements can also just be signed by whoever is making them.

hope that helps
