Hi Pommie.B. wonder if you happened to read the article in one of the Aussie papers last week dealing with retirement savings?
"Australia is the only country in the world where retirement savings are taxed three times - the contribution stage, the earnings on the investments, and when you withdraw your final benefits"
The rest of the article is a bit of a downer too.
We too are taxed to the hilt here in Canada , however I was under the impression that the taxes in Oz were less draconian... seems not.

We have close Irish friends here, who are returning to ireland when they retire...seems their incomes will be treated more favourably, and too the gov't treats retirees very well.
As for the weather question, they've already bought a small apartment in S.of France..paid 75 thous.U.K. pounds...needs some work, we're volunteering to do some painting.

Super in Australia is a big con they do tax it 3 times and expect you to become self funded in retirement , the state pension is means tested so your super is set at a level to stop you getting it .
The bastards will tell you how long your savings and super will last until you get a state pension or health card, land of plenty my arse.

I genuinely believe this to be the case. Those on the forum who live in Oz (especially those who have been here for longer than 6 months - 1 year) are more realistic and acknowledge the truth of what is said by myself, PB, and a few others. It is those who have yet to even set foot on Oz soil/sand (and so many "experts" on the forum have not even had a holiday here! True - they had a poll a while back and they had to admit it) that build Oz up to sometrhing no country could ever deliver in the modern world. Look at the real Ozzies who post here - they are far more prepared to knock Oz and hear compliments about the UK than the poms.

Most of the future poms on this forum are so full of bull it makes you wonder why they think that Oz could be so great and so different to the rest of the world - e.g., bad/boring jobs feel good here even when you do them for years and years, you do not need to earn reasonable money here, unemployment in Oz does not hurt and is not like unemployment in the rest of the world, criminals here are "nicer" or "more friendly" and to be burgled here is better than in the UK, etc, etc.

I tried to read this book once but gave up. Perhaps it is a good time to try again.

Fraid must agree with PB on this one. One of our super funds went backwards past 2 years admittedly it was only the employer contribution one but backwards none the less. We dont intend to sit back waiting for the system to keep us though and have other funds in place. I think our taxation system here is so complex that even the tax office dont understand it.

If you have > $A 25O k, it might be better as a self managed fund.

Fine but no company has to pay into it and if I did the company would drop their 4% extra payments also sick pay benefits and death benefit , been there and it looks no better.

For the part you can not roll into a new employers fund.

Default let em find out themselves

The performance of funds over in the UK is no better - my policy was worth less than I ever paid into it after almost 10 years, so I cashed it in as it was due a major shortfall at maturity. Oz doesn't sound much better.......The crime over here is as bad, if not worse than Oz, Pensions are worthless in the UK also as in Oz, violent attacks on teachers, everything you basically mention that's wrong with Oz occurs here in the UK also.....the list goes on....

Trouble is, whatever reasons you come up with for trying to put potential migrants off coming to OZ, it won't work. They have their minds set on migration, so deal with it. They'll find out for themsleves if it was a big mistake, and the worse that can happen is that it will cost them their life savings and they'll be back to the UK. Why bother posting articles from newspapers PB - are you that bored? I could do that all day long with the UK papers, matching your bad stories with something equally horrific from the UK or anywhere else - only today in France the body of a 9 year old tortured to death has been found...prime suspects? His parents......nice huh? What now, don't go to France? It's a fact of life that bad things happen wherever you are, so stop moaning about Oz and do something about your situation rather than posting negative comments here all day long...Oz may not be for you, but it may be the best decision some of the people on here ever make.....it may also be the worst, so don't think this is a rose tinted posting.....and according to my understanding tax laws etc can be changed rather easily by the powers that be, so your not guaranteed financially secure anywhere in reality...

I don't expect a reply from Pb, Wilf etc, whenever I comment on Wilf's postings he skips over them as they happen to show a balanced view rather than a one sided opinion, something he can't argue with.

Rich.

You still compare what you know little of instead of reason your choice ,I for one careless if all the Pom refugees leave it will improve the UK not Australia.

British immigrants 2003: ~ 11% of ~130k = ~15k.

British population: ~60M.

British-Aus Immigrants / British Population: ~ 15k / 60M = 0.00025 = 0.025%.

Are these British-Aus immigrants profoundly sociopathic?

If your reply was in English I may be able to fathom it, as it's not entirely understandable, (try punctuation it works wonders )I'll try to understand what you mean.......

My reasons for emigration are many..not least because my skills are very specialised, with only a handful of luthiers in NZ, mainly around Auckland, which is why I'm heading for Wellington. I successfully run a luthiery business here in the UK, but have more of a market in NZ, with less of the burdens that I suffer here. Add to this the quality of life I am to have, and I have all the reasons I need for giving NZ a shot. If it doesn't work out, then I'll come back...I'm not under the illusion that NZ has no problems, but it certainly has more advantages for me in its' current form.
