You could go to the Barrier Reef, that's quite cool. It's a bit pricey but definately worth it.

Kuranda is worth a visit, get the Skyrail there and back, great views!

If you go to the Casino go up to the roof - there's a giant birdcage up there with some cool birds and animals in it.

port douglas is very nice about 1 hour from cairns
small town with a nice little market. Also Daintree trail is very good but you need a 4 wheel drive for that, lots of rivers to drive through.

Go to the Daintree - ignore Cape Trib and go for Thornton beach or Noah Beach...If cash stretches, stop at Daintree Eco Lodge and Spa - we are going there in July and it's V. good!!!

Try the Tablelands - Crater lakes, Undara, Herberton, Ravenshoe, Innot Hot Springs... Allawah Retreat nr Tolga is just gorgeous...

On your way to Mission beach...Flying fish point is beautiful and you can camp...Innisfail's a poo hole...

Wonga beach is pretty, Mossman Gorge is good, Babinda boulders are worth seeing...

Basically anywhere but Cairns, but that's 'cos we've 'been there, seen that' a million times over with our visitors...

You could do:

The Zoo
Skyrail
Tjapukai
Cable ski
The Northern beaches
Reef Casino Dome is a major rip off - one croc and a few birds and snakes...
Hartley's crocodile farm
Kuranda butterfly sanctuary
Kuranda scenic railway
Kuranda markets...another rip off...
Reef boat trips
Catch-a-crab
etc, etc, etc

Depends what you are after for your visit....

Depends on how much time you have??? Do the usual places like Kuranda (go up on the train and down on the sky rail otherwise you listen to squeaky breaks all the way down the mountain on the train!), Barrier reef, Green Island, Port Douglas, Tablelands. Forget the Tjapukai and go to Paronella Park instead. Go on the silver bullet to the lava tubes and do the tour (that is depending on the time factor) and most importantly go to Noodle Box in Cairns Central and enjoy a Nasi Box gawd I love them

catch a crab is a rip off to. he got busted for putting pots in with crabs already in them so the punters think they've actually caught one.
