Question where to stay when you land?

Hi - i was just wondering where people stayed whilst they were waiting for the furniture and before they went into rental accomodation???!!!

We are hopefully heading for Melbourne so if anybody has any experience of there that would be great!

We are waiting for our visa, but after reading some of the threads I am worrying that things are going to go wrong! typical woman!

Thanks everybody

Follow that thread link from Luma as there are good answers on there.
We took our first took weeks in a furnished holiday rental so we could at least have some normality around us. This gave us enough time to find our feet, and start looking for jobs and a place to live. Then we took an unfurnished rental till our shipment arrived.
We bought some cheap items to help us in the mean time - blow up mattress, camp chairs, kettle, toaster, iron etc etc. there are cheap shops you can pick these up in for < $10 an item (try Big W). Some items we bought with an intention to keep, others to store away as backups.
For instance, we didn't bother shipping our tiddly little uk fridge. Instead we bought a new one here, as you can't manage long without one.
It depends on your circumstances (kids?) and how much you're willing to put up with.
Don't worry about worrying, everyone else does it too.

It is possible to rent short term furnished accommodation or even rent appliances and furnishings.

How cheap is it to rent appliences/furniture there? I know it is a very expensive option in the Uk but here in the US we have found it the best option for us, and I have been told that in fact rental is an option often used by lower income families here. Now I am thinking that it might be a cost effective solution once we get to Oz?
