We've finally got a buyer for the house (20% less than starting price last year, but a sale it is!) and are looking at finally get out to Sydney at the end of May.

After doing some homework we are thinking of maybe Hornsby or Miranda and their surrounding areas (have briefly visited Hornsby). But we obviously need to have a good look round and check out the schools for my 6yr old daughter before making a decision.

BTW, anyone know what the noise levels are like in and around Miranda from the airport?

Anyway, what I want to know is can anyone recommend places to stay when first arrive in sydney?

We haven't got friends or family to stay with and we want something cheap and furnished (probably not going to have a job to go to and not shipping anything) while we look for somewhere to rent/jobs/schools etc.... Will probably rent a car for the 1st couple of weeks while go looking around (though would love to live without one when we find a rental!).

Have stayed near Miranda (Grays Point) for a couple of weeks and didn't hear any aircraft.....cockatoo fly overs were bloody noisy though lol....

Anyway....congratulations on the sale of your house & good luck when you get to Sydney. We arrived without jobs, but had an Aunt to stay with for 3 months

When we arrived in Sydney we went to the accommodation centre in the airport, We stayed at the rocks for three days while we recovered and did a bit of sightseeing, after that we went up the coast and found campsites were the cheapest, so I can't recommend anywhere cheap in Sydney.

We hired a car from bayswater car rentals (No Birds), they're in kings cross.
