Where to stay in Adelaide amongst other things

Hello everybody! Long, long time since i been on here (too long...) :o

Looking for a bit of advice and/or recommendations.
We've booked our flights and are now looking for suggestions on car hire and accomodation whilst we're in Adelaide, be it hotel or B&B etc.
Any help appreciated. We'll be staying for the thick end of a month in Oz, so experiences, links etc will all be good. We'd prefer to organise the car hire at least, so that we've got transport when we arrive at the airport as we have a 3 year old with us.
Hope you are all well and not stressed out as we have been with house sale etc (that's another story...)

Try the Grand apartments on melbourne st, they do good offers if staying for a length of time.
Also you have caravan parks, there is a small one in the marion area, which is reasonable. Try a web site called wotif.com.au

We hired a car from budget and picked it up at Adelaide airport, no problems at all, and were fine when we extended the hire.

It was in Feb, but I can't remember how much it cost. There was a website which listed all the car hire places, but I can't remember what it was called. :o
You can choose what size car you want, so went for cheapest as there were just two of us. :)

Hi rightruccusm,

we had similar concerns when arriving in Adelaide Aug 06. We eventually plumbed for a caravan at Adelaide shores. It's about a 10 minute ride from the airport and the rates were good. They accepted our booking via a UK credit card while we were in blighty and were really helpful and friendly. It had stuff for kids to do and was right on the beach.

Here's a link. http://www.adelaideshores.com.au/crawards.htm

Not sure on the car hire thing as we caught a taxi to Main North Road and came back with a car on day 2.

Have a safe journey. :)

Hey there

We stayed in the Grand Apartments too, locationwise they're hard to beat as you're walking distance from the city centre (especially useful for stuff like Medicare and driving licences as you can walk to both places) and as Milly says (hey btw, how's Sydney?) they do a better rate for longer stays. Includes all your bills and high speed broadband too which makes a big difference when you're first here. Well it did to us.

We hired a car through Avis first time and budget second - both cheap and easy as have places at the airport and city for dropping off - again both walking distance back to the Grand.

As for experiences, there are wine tours, wildlife experiences, beaches, hills, plenty to keep you going for more than a month :D If you can be a bit more specific about what types of things you're interested in we can probably help more.

We stayed here - http://www.adelaidedresscircle.com.au/ - but we never hired a car and used buses to get around most the time as we were so central. We stayed in the ones in North Adelaide - The Glasshouse. Checked their rates and currently is 270 per week. We loved it!

Cheers everyone. :)

We'll probably go for the cheapest car we can get as well, cause all we need is something to carry our luggage when we arrive and get us out and about to get a feel for the area. At this point, we still don't really know how much we'll need to take with us in terms of money or have available for that length of time.

The Grand Apartments sound appealing for the convenience factor i've go to say, so we'll delve a bit more into that.

Our original intention was to come over permanently in around May of this year, but as everyone knows, the current economic climate has put paid to that, so we've decided to validate the Visa and check out things like rentals, house prices, jobs etc etc while we're over in November. It'll be a holiday as such, but a lot of the time will be taken up with trying to find out as much as possible for our future life there. I certainly hope we can chill out and see some of the attractions Adelaide has to offer though! :D
As for interests, we're pretty spoiled where we live just now as we have beaches within 30mins drive one way, hills and lakes 30-40 mins the other! with major city shopping and outelts within 15 mins! Any of those you suggested Pinkie are good. :)
Having internet access would be very, very handy!

Thanks scotlandtooz, we'll look into that as well. :)

Dresscircle run the Grand Apartments too so you'll certainly find something good there. There are cheaper places but they're fulled kitted out, serviced well and as I say, the broadband was a life saver for us when we got here.

We timed a meet recently to coincide with someone visiting on a recce and that seemed to work well for them so let us know your dates and I'm sure we can do the same thing. Might be good to meet some 'locals' and get a real feel for living in Adelaide.

As for holiday stuff, I'll come back to you with some suggestions. How do you feel about mechanical bull riding.......

(only kidding by the way - well sort of, went out after work last Friday and ended up in a bar which had a rodeo bull thing! Brilliant!)

I tend to use www.vroomvroomvroom.com.au. They compare the rates from all the majors - and the earlier you book (non binding) the better the rate generally. For a long rental - I'd also try the majors from the UK. Last time I booked (OK it was over 2 years ago) and paid on a Mastercard with Hertz I got 10% extra discount.

Yep, would be good to get the 'lowdown' from those in the know when we're there, so that is very much appreciated.
We arrive on the 4th November around 10 in the morning, so no doubt it'll be straight to accomodation and zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!!!!!! Never been on a flight as long as this, so have no idea what to expect! :D

Mechanical bull riding!?!
Pah! Piece 'o cake.

Pinochio
