Where to start?!...
Hi ,
My boyfriend and myself have just started looking into moving abroad to Australia, but don't know where to start, it seems a bit overwhelming searching thro the internet websites.
My other half is employed with the British Police Force, and i have a degree in Events Management. We have been recommed to move to Australia, due to my boyfriends profession, they say Austrialia is looking for British Police (as some people in his office have already made the move), but not too sure if this still stands? And is event jobs popular in Aus?
Neither of us have property in the UK, does this matter? Will this make finding property in a foreign country harder, as we have no experience in this sector?
If not Aus, where would you reccomend taking into account my boyfriends career, which is the most important thing, as he has no other qualifications or skills to fall back on...
Thanks in advance

The town near where i work has a new police officer from Sunderland. I believe the majority are state sponsered.
Not having a property in the UK should not be too big a issue, though you will need to save some money to either buy new furnishings when you arrive or to have things shipped.
The first thing that you should be asking though is why you want to come here. It has lots of amazing things but it also has its negatives. It isnt England with sunshine!

This was 6 months ago so things may have changed, I'd be interested to know if they have so I can let him know.

My best mate, who's a Police DI, looked into coming to Australia but found that none of the forces where sponsoring, and that without sponsorship from one of the local police forces he couldn't apply for a visa.

Re: Where to start?!...
Big drinking buddy of mine in Canberra left the Met and joined WA police based in Perth 3 years ago. Found it all very basic and poorly structured, which was good for him as his skills in the Met far outweighted his, jealous, WA colleagues. After being there a short while he has now transferred to the Federal Police, hence his time in Canberra, still in WA but better pay and conditions and none of the 'bobby on the streets' crap!!

Yes, I believe it has changed. When we were first applying for our visa (3 yrs ago), I went for a job interview at Aus house & they were very busy with police recruit interviews/assessments. It was a big recruitment drive that I believe has not been repeated since.
