Default Where to live in Sydney?

Hi all,

Today my partner and I got the news that he got a job in Sydney.

He will be working near to Circular Quay & I am a paediatric nurse hoping to get a job in a children's hospital either in Westmead or Randwick. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on nice areas to live with good transport links for both of us?

Our budget will be around $650 per week. Is it likely that we will be able to find a nice apartment for that amount?

Really appreciate your opinions/help.

Sophie

You can live in Randwick. You don't want to live near Westmead. Express buses go from Randwick to Circular Quay. Check out the times here. http://www.sydneybuses.info/routes/t...les-route-maps

Check your paediatric quals against Australian ones, sometimes they MAY not match. Really read into it and even call a hospital HR office to check.

You could live in Homebush or Strathfield which would give you both access to the train to the City and Westmead.

There are plenty of good suburbs close to Westmead, unfortunately, the commute to the City is not quite so simple.

There'e the whole of the Hills District - maybe you don't consider that a decent place to live. I believe Merrylands and Greystanes are pretty good too. Can't be ar*ed listing anymore.

You don't see many apartments in the Hills District do you? And $650 won't be enough for a decent house.

Fair enough. But still if they are a couple, I think Randwick would be more appealing. We looked at Hills District when we first got here, but as a couple, it just didn't have the right feel for us.

That's fine as long a she is not working at Westmead. I would not like to travel that distance,on my own.at night, which she would have to do.

That is a valid point actually. Also we don't know if there are children involved (at home not work!!) but by the lack of any reference to schools or child care I am assuming none.
As a couple then Randwick would be better to enjoy all that Sydney has to offer, the Hills has some fine suburbs and they could get a house for $650 week but its not really an 'in' place for a couple to enjoy life. For families it is good, for couples not so much.

Thanks for all your replies. It is really helpful. There are no children at home. Just the 2 of us and both being 23 we definitely want to live where there is stuff happening!
