Where to live for the first few weeks

Does anyone have any advice or pointers on where to live in Sydney for the first few weeks? We plan on looking to rent a house soon after we arive but it could take a few weeks. We don't really want to pay hotel rates for that time but nor do we want to slum it too much.

Any advice or thoughts?

I'm in much the same situation. I've been checking on
http://www.domain.com.au for the last week or so and emailing the odd
person from there with some possibilities coming up. It looks easier to do
remotely if like me you are looking for share accommodation but I imagine
it would be harder if you are wanting to rent a house as they will mostly
be done through agencies.

Still looks like I'll need to start off in a hotel or serviced apartment
for a week or so though - I'll probably book something through
http://www.wotif.com.au the week before I fly out. I arrive on Friday
morning and I seem to remember the Saturday Sydney Morning Herald is the
paper of choice for housing ads.
