Where to live in Brisbane?
Hi There,
I'm a 30 year old moving to Brisbane from the UK on my own and i will be working in Herston. Where would be a good place to live? I'm not looking for party central but also i don't want to be living in 'nappy valley'. My pay is 84k per year so i'm also trying to figure out how much i can afford. As i am on my 'todd' i will probably seek to rent a two bed apartment and sublet a room. Is it easy to find housemates? I also have a week in Brisbane before starting my job so i can look at places to live but is there a quick turnaround when renting from letting agents?
Some people have recommended that i should look at Southbank, Kangaroo Point, New Farm and West End.
Any advice?
Thanks,
Catherine

Going through the same problem myself. Have you visited Brisbane before?

If you're working at Herston I assume it might be Royal Brisbane related work? If so the hospital (and surrounding area) is extremely easy to reach via public transport (busway) so you could live anywhere else with good transport links. I would recommend Bulimba, New Farm, Teneriffe, Paddington or anywhere else that has stuff going on in the evenings/weekends and has a bit of a 'vibe'. There are likely good suburbs on the Northside - but I am not familiar with that area.
It's fairly easy to find housemates - there is a section on realestate.com.au for 'Share' properties so you could advertise on that.

Kelvin Grove Urban Village is walkable to the hospital, next to the university, has shops, cafes, it's own weekend markets, La BoƮte theatre, golf course, is a creative industries events hub and has a lot of apartments. Worth checking out.
