Have you any idea yet on any areas, North, South etc.

Manly & Wynnum, in the Bayside, come to mind, but it may be getting a bit crowded now

Wolky, when you say the "beach or harbour" do you mean just by the water in general, or do you specifically want a beach with surf & white sand etc? If its the former the bayside area would definitely fit, especially Manly/Wynnum as ABC mentioned as there is a lovely marina there & its within your commuting distance. If its the latter, you will need to go to the Sunshine or Gold Coast for that & you are looking at well over an hour commute.

The bayside area has a few small beaches with no surf suitable for young kids, but the stereotypical idea of an aussie beach they are not! .

Hi Wolky

If you are looking specifically at either Brisbane or the surrounding areas maybe this site will be of help: http://www.where2live.info/

The contact there is Chantal Dunbar. We have a copy of the Gold Coast book and will buy the new Brisbane book. If you want some info on the books themselves, just email chantal, I am sure she will be very helpful.

Cheers, G

Just incase you havent found it www.realestate.com.au is a good site to look at for property and if looking at property in the Brisbane suburbs it will tell you how many km's from the city.

Hi
Like others have said depends on what you want from the area (and what your budget is). The Bayside area is beautiful, easy distant to the city and a good train link - however prices are higher than more western suburbs.
Some other useful web-site for research are:
http://www.ourbrisbane.com/ This is the main council website (not sure if this the one you already looked at)
http://www.redland.qld.gov.au/ This is the council website for the Redlands which is where the Bayside suburbs are located
Unfortunately we don't have much experience of north of the city, I know some people who live at Redcliffe which is a real seasidy town - reminds us of Weymouth.
Although the Bayside suburbs don't have direct access to the beaches we are only a short ferry ride away from Stradbroke Island and Coochiemudlo Island (a favourite of ours).
