Where to live in Brisbane
Awaiting visa for move to Brisbane to take up new job (compnay transfer). Hope to be out in August. Can anyone give me a good idea of where we should / shouldn't be looking to live. Work will be 5 miles south of City centre, all responses greatly appreciated. Thanks RC

Can you tell us which actual suburb you'll be working in? And what your housing requirements are? (close to schools/cafes/restaurants, how many bedrooms, lowset/highset, brick/wood, old/new, how much rent/week or buying budget etc?)

OK, we're new to this so bear with us.... To clarify, job is in Rocklea, looking for 4 bed house to rent with pool, up to 30 or 40 mins drive from work. Have 2 teenage kids 15 & 16 so needs to be somewhere to suit family. Ideally comuting distance to city for Daughters college & essential shopping trips !!!

Based on what you've said, I'd suggest you try the following suburbs (you havent given a budget, but these cover a reasonable range). Ive grouped them in general areas
Sherwood
Graceville
Chelmer (last one if you're feeling rich )
Kenmore
Chappel Hill
Fig Tree Pocket
Jindalee
Jamboree Heights
Mt Ommaney
West Lake
Moorooka
Salisbury
Fairfield
Yeronga/Yerongpilly
All of the above are close to Rocklea & have good public transport links to the city. One thing to be aware of is that you may have trouble getting a rental with a pool, although in general the better the neighbourhood, the more likely it is you'll find one (but you will pay more in rent). check out http://www.realestate.com.au/cgi-bin...ch?a=bhp&t=ren for rentals .
Avoid
Inala
Darra
Durack
Rocklea
Archerfield
Coopers Plains
Oxley
If you dont mind being a bit further away (that 30-40 mins) then you could consider the bayside area. Have a look at http://s6.invisionfree.com/BrisbaneBaysideBrits if you are interested.
If you have any specific questions about specific suburbs just yell.
