Plenty of families were on holiday in Siem Reap and Danang last year when we went. It's exciting and blissfully cheap.
Port Douglas
Only my opinion but these Asian places mentioned are more for Singles.Depending what month you are going i would say New Zealand South Island or The Bay of Plenty in the North,The Kiwi winter starts April 31st.And the Aussie Dollar is Good value against the Kiwi.Great climate in NZ as long as you miss the rain.

My niece lived in Bangkok for two years, she loved it and the people. However she's now in Bogota and loves that too so maybe it only suits a certain type of person. I've always told her she's kind of odd.
What about Vietnam? I'd love to go there. Or a week in HK and a week in China. Not cheap obviously.

(What they say about you can't be seen bathing in your outdoor bath is not true, though. Hope you're not shy!)

Phuket? Nice for a couples/family holiday (you can easily avoid the sleaze if you avoid Patong) and lots of other islands etc for day trips.
We've been that time of year and it sometimes rained for an hour in the afternoon but it was OK, didn't really stop us doing anything.

KL and Penang/Langkawi?
Love both Penang and Langkawi. Lots of sights to see and things to do but equally good hotels with pools for lazies who want to veg by the pool......
We are doing Phuket/Koh Samui later this year. Used to go to Phuket when younger, last time was 1994....

No offence implied! I just don't see there's much to appeal to anyone not giving a kick out of impoverished Asians degrading themselves in bars.
Borneo is amazing - you could fly to KL - have a city break there and then on to Sarawak for jungle trekking if you are into natural history. I stayed here and it was seriously fantastic.

You and me both. I'm certainly not single and have been to all "these Asian" destinations more times than I care to remember. Loved every minute of it. A holiday is what you make of it. In fact, going back to Malaysia later in the year and then onto Borneo.

Would avoid Malaysia at that time of year - you are starting to get into "Arab Season". The hotels are starting to really fill up with people from Saudi, UAE and other Arabic states - nearly all the women are completely covered and the men are in shorts and t-shirts and lear at the western women.
I can say this from personal experience based on several visits during that time of the year - however it does get worse around July/August.

Bangkok is one of the worlds great cities, shopping, food, quality nightlife, hotels, spas and markets etc are all easily amongst the worlds best. As a coity destination in Asia it cannot be beat.
