Where can I buy a day/night sensor?

Where can I buy a day/night sensor?
I've tried Googling, and asked just about everyone in NSW - Turks, Bunnings, Magnet Mart etc - but I cannot find a 240v day/night sensor switch.
I want to have a sensor switch our new gatepost lights on at night and off at dawn - everyone seems to think I want PIRs: anyone know of a source?
*Please*!

Maybe this link will help you along? This guy converted a 240v sensor light to run off 12v. Maybe you can then also add in the switch? Or maybe he can help you further. (The site also has a forum - maybe someone there can help.)

I'm still trying to find a supplier - the one you link to is probably American: it's a 120v system.
Thanks anyway.

im pretty sure turks would sell them. have you tried the clipsal or hpm website. look for LDR (light dependant resisitor). it should send you in the right direction. you could aslo put a time clock on although you would have to keep changing it throughout the year but would be fine for what you want

Re: Where can I buy a day/night sensor?
we use cnw and ideal electrical and i cannot see why a dusk till dawn or an intelligent photocell ( one that switches off halfway throgh the night ) cannot be bought straight off the shelf
infact i`ll ask tommorrow if i have the chance as i should be going into our local ideal to pick up gear for next weeks work

They all seem to think I'm talking about movement detectors - it's a sort of mindset <g>

Re: Where can I buy a day/night sensor?
I went into CLE today and ordered a 56SSR - and, having read the instructions on that link wondered if I've done the right thing!
It is intended to switch two compact fluorescent gate lights, IIRC about 11 watts each. (They are a new type, about 70mm in diameter and only about 20mm thick - they slot into the base rather like a big GU10 fitting). It appears from the data shett that there's an off-state leakage through fluorescents with exceptions I'm not qualified in - any comments?
