Hi folks just a quick one that someone may be able to answer...

We're going on holiday to Mel for a few weeks and wondered whether it was best to change our £ for $'s here in the UK or wait til we get to Melbourne? Does the exchange rate differ and if so which tends to be more favourable?

If its just holiday cash you reall may as well exchange it before you leave since that way you have money when you arrive. The rate would be comparable in either country. I always used American Express, but there is always Travelex and different agents. No doubt you can phone around for the best rate but there's usually only a cent in it if that.

Usually just use debit cards in 'hole in the wall' cash dispensers or credit cards for bigger expenses.

We always find that LLoyds bank offer the best rates for travellers cheques. They issue American Express travellers cheques, but for some reason the rate is better than the rate American Express offer.

I always use Marks & Spencer. I find they give the best rate & have no card fees if you use their store card (which I got for this very purpose).
