Default When to tell your employer you are moving?

Our plans are coming together nicely, both eager to get over to Oz and explorer our new lives!

Current status - Waiting to hear back from Skilled Visa with the aim to try and be over in Brisbane before July.

I currently work for a large IT firm and of course don't want to burn any bridges, this is the second time I've worked for them and if all fails in our new lives and we return to the UK I will be straight on to the phone with them again.

My question is when would be a good time to tell my employer I'm leaving or do I just hand in my notice at the last possible moment?

Any advice or experience greatly appreciated.

Well I certainly wouldn't say anything to anyone until you actually have the visa in your sticky mitts.

Take some leave, fly out to Australia, start your new job then after a few weeks call your old job and tell them you wont be coming back

Seriously I know someone who did that but he didn't care as he didn't get on with the people in the company any longer. Risky for future references of course.

I would just give the required notice period.

Depends on your relationship with your boss/company. I told my boss it had always been a dream to move for me and she told me that she once lived in Perth and completly supported me on a potential move. When it all went tits up, she was supportive and said that Aussies loss was her gain . I then moved roles within the company and a internal transfer was on the cards and my new boss completely supported me on that as well. Job in the bag and im offsky in 3 weeks. Oh my boss is well jeleous and asked me to look out for a role for him
