I seem to remember 8 ish in summer an 6 ish in winter

It depends on the area 
here in Perth it started getting dark at about 6 last month already. I guess it'll be 5.30 or even earlier soon... can't be bothered to look it up...
Was about 6 when we arrived on 15 july last year.
I think it's about 7.30 in summer.
