What's The Work Situation Like in Oz at the Moment?

Hi, I have been away from Oz for about three years now after a years trip out there. I couldn't get a bloody job could I.
I am currently working in the aircraft manufacturing industry in the UK, North Wales, as a Quality Assurance/Conformance Engineer, have Inspection experience, and I am a fitter by trade but haven't done that for years. Additionally, in younger years, I have four years experience as a Financial Adviser (pensions, mortgages, life insurance etc) and three years as a salesman with Canon selling photocopiers.
I did go through a very long winded interview process with Boeing in Melbourne, they even invited me for a medical and showed me around for two hours, but still no luck (and it wasn't a health issue either). Otherwise, I couldn't get a bloody interview despite being well qualified and experienced in business and manufacturing.
I am 52 years old, 53 this year, strong and fit, I have all my own hair, all my own teeth, and I am still seriously good looking (lol, only having a laugh).
So what is wrong with these bloody Aussies? What the hell are they looking for? Why are they and all these bloody immigration companies portraying a false picture of some sort of employment Utopia?...peddling bullshit in other words.
Hurry up with your answers, I want to get back there ASAP (I'll do a driving job, don't care...giz a job will ya!!!)

The latest unemployment figure came out at 6% which is a continuation of an upward trend. It is believed it would be more like 7% only participation rates fell as well. It is a long way from employment utopia.

Do you have a visa or Australian citizenship already? If no well then that is your problem, if yes well then it is probably because you are not here. There are definitely enough people on the ground for most jobs.

Why would Boeing employ a 53 year old stallion on megabucks when they can employ a 33 year old stallion out of Seattle for half your costs.

Hi mate. Yrs, I have a Permanent Resident Visa, an RRV a to be precise.
When you say 'enough people on the ground for every job' I presume you mean many peoploids chasing the same work? I don't mind a bit of competition like, but at 52, soon to be 53, it will probably get tougher.
Like I said though, I would be happy doing a driving job. I'm a bit sick of having to 'think' too much anyway, just need something cruisee really.
But you are right about having to be there, good call.
Thanks for the reply

Hi mate. Well, good question.
I sort of got cold feet about it. Someone back here in England, a mate of mine, has Oz citizenship and we were having a chat about that. He reckons it is very tough to make a buck doing that...too many illegals, low pay, back breaking work etc.
Then again, it can't all be like that surely.
Maybe I was just having a wistful, romantic dream with that one.
Thanks for your reply.

Well I think he was joking a little. On the other hand in some industries a UK training can be well regarded. I find it the case in my industry.

Honestly? Husband has just been made redundant as has his friend both with different employers one welder other Hardware store.
Husband is going to retrain. Depends whether you'll take any job or if your
occupation is in demand.
Aussies are living with rose tinted glasses that there's no
Recession here :/
