Good transport system (car & bus)
Plenty of open space and suburbia
Plenty of sporting facilities and cycle paths
Family orientated

Socialising occurs in the backyard (BBQ) rather than clubs/pubs
2 & a bit hours to the coast
Day trip to the snowfields

Cold in winter -9ºC to hot (dry) in Summer
Used to be public service driven but has grown up
Could be an acquired taste for some

Would be my choice after Brisbane for capital cities

A car is mandatory in Canberra due to it's spread out nature. Newer houses should have wall and ceiling insulation. Heating costs can be high in winter as older houses werent build for it. Canberra used to be the ex-pat destination during 50's & 60's.
