What's generally open in Perth over New Year
I'll check with specific retailers nearer the time, but what's likely to be open in Perth on 1, 2, 3 January? (1 is a Sat so 3rd is Public Holiday?)
We arrive late on 30/12 and the relative we were planning to stay with is now moving to NZ. So we have 31/12 to buy enough stuff to allow us to camp out in our house until our container arrives.
Will stores like the Good Guys, IKEA, Freedom, Big W, Target, KMart typically be open on 1, 2, 3 Jan or do we need to get EVERYTHING on 31/12?

Joondalup has now been designated a special precinct and as such opens till 9pm weekdays and 11-5 on a Sunday. Places are usually closed on the 1st but you should be OK for Sunday being open 11-5. This is Joondalup only in the area from Ocean Reef Road to Shenton and the Freeway to Grand Blvd.

Thanks, especially Northern Bird as will be near Joondalup. I'll get my map out.
So there's now Sunday trading? Yegods.

If you require beds etc think about how you'll get them home or have you rented furnished?
I very much doubt you'll arrange transport on 31st for bigger items.
If it were me for the sake of it I'd get a hotel/motel for the weekend, kick back and enjoy it then go shopping the next week.
Oops just saw you;re other post.
I'd definitely get a hotel - I think you're self under too much pressure in one day to furnish a house the day before NYE?
You'll save what the extra accom costs in van hire, buying wrong, not getting what you want etc.

Re: What's generally open in Perth over New Year
I've just booked a hotel near the airport for the night we arrive (30/12).
I think we'll then spend the 31/12 buying inflatable beds, a bar fridge (unless I can arrange in advance for the "real" one to be delivered that day), starter kits of pots and pans and food. That'll do for a few days until we can make a trip to IKEA etc and order a big delivery. We camped out in the house when it was first built for 2 weeks with just this, so it'll be fine.
And I think (re other thread) we'll hire a car big enough for us plus luggage and just hire a big car/van for the day when we collect the cats. Or we might have bought a car by then if I use car broker so we can just take 2 cars.
Only got a week before husband starts work, so looks like a busy week!

Since it's our house so I know the measurements I've done a lot of (read: obsessive) amount of planning so I pretty much know exactly what I'm looking for.
But: any ideas on racing car/fire engine beds for kids? Where do they sell those in Perth (preferably fully assembled)

Second hand in a publication called the Quokka issued on Thursdays or keep your eye out on Ebay. I haven't seen these in shops although I'm not actively looking and my guess is that they'll be costly, like most furniture here except IKEA. I'd buy second hand from someone who has already shipped it over as kids grow out of these things quickly.
