People are a lot more informal, friendly and often pretty blunt.
You don't take the p*** with the weather, you wear suncream and hats and when they forcast storms you take notice.
We find that it can be frustrating dealing with banks etc who all close at 4.30 and don't work weekends so if you work you have to take time off to see them, the same with doctors etc.

people get up really early and generally go to bed earlier too, our neighbour used to cut his grass at 6.30 am after his daily 5.45-6.15 am walk.

School is 8.50 until 3pm, although out of school care is available from 6 til 6. our school has a walking club that starts at 8.30, there was actually a letter home to all parents to say not to drop them off any earlier as most of the kids are there by 8.15, they are able to use the computer lab or library any time...our kids actually want to go to school early where as in the UK it was a nightmare getting them out of the door.

Ours starts at 8:40 and finishes at 3:00 Monday and Wednesday-Friday. Tuesday it finishes at 2:00. Less time on breaks, four terms a year rather than three, and eight weeks of summer hols!! Mine's breaking up 8th December and going back 1st February. Worst shock for us is having to pay for *everything* at school other than her basic education!! They don't even get a pencil free... Education here is an even bigger money-grabbing exercise than it was in the UK.

Talking about school, is there anyone else who has trouble getting their child's school to offer soap for handwashing? Our daughter was avoiding using the loo last week because there was no soap for handwashing.
