Hi,

We are also thinking of moving to Berwick, but still at the first stages of visa applications, skills test etc!
We have relatives who live there, but the majority are born and bred Aussies. They say how nice it is, very family orientated, good schools, lots of jobs and lots to do.
According to my relatives is will cost you $450,000 for a four bedroomed, two bathroomed property in a nice area.
I'd be interested to hear what you've heard about Berwick.

The old part of Berwick is very nice, leafy and the area towards the hills is very very nice. The other area is many many estates of housing ranging from new to twenty odd years old. Nearest shopping centre is Fountain Gate. Nearest commercial centre is Dandenong. Not near the beach. Has a train line,a university campus, hospital, many schools, lots of kids as its popular with people who have children of school age. Busy, the township is bypassed by the freeway. Popular with Brits. Surrounding areas are Narre Warren north and Narre Warren north, Hallam, Beaconsfield, Cranbourne, Lynbrook.

Further towards the beach you have Pearcedale which is in the same council area.

Beach areas across from Berwick are Seaford, Frankston, Mount Eliza, Mornington, Mount Martha.

Hi our friends were there last year and they said it had a good vibe about it especially the old part, We have relatives in Ferntree Gully and The Basin, We were out last March, the houses roundabout Ferntree Gully, Wantirna South are really nice but more expensive. We liked Boronia but We were told on this forum it was quite rough but you cannot judge a place by other peoples experiences. One person on here slated the place and others praised it , to be fair most places have good and bad areas.

All of the above. It is a tale of 2 cities.

One side is Established old Berwick, and the more genteel folk of the borough - and surrounding environs. There is a bit of money, old money call it what you will. It is the only area in the entire SE that has a bit of a cafe and restaurant scene and that is small - don't quote me. People who decide SE are very careful to get the very best areas. There are some very good if expensive pickings to be had in the villages around and about.

The other tale is all the cashed up Bogans and the new estates - which get worse as you head to Fountain Gate and Narre Warren. I feel sorry for people who bought into flat, empty land near Narre 15 years ago. Get on the train and see the difference in the demographic between Berwick and Narre. Narre is all shops, takeaways and hoons.

If you are like many and don't work in the city, the highway won't bother you. actually if you are sensible you can avoid the worst. They widened the highway a few years ago and it made a massive difference when I went in at about 630am last winter. (Gasp!)
