Default What are your reasons for moving to Oz?

I thought I'd ask this one even though it seems a really weird question to ask of everyone on here.

The thing is the misses said to me the other night, what are the good reasons to move to Australia (Perth in our case). As I'm the one who's wanting to do this, I tried to offer up a list but then started to struggle. I mean I gave the usual about the weather, life style, better environment for the kids etc but I kind of stopped at that point.

So I thought I'd just ask the general question on here to see what everyone else thinks.

If I was honest my reasons for moving are all those above plus something inside of me which needs to go. I was brought up abroad and only returned to the UK when I was about 14 so its kind of in the blood.

Cheers

P.S. the wife is still keen to go just thought I'd see what everyone else has on their list of reasons.

Apart from all the things you mentioned, I'm also keen to live in a place where the politicians are not so full of shit, and where it's not shamed upon to protect / respect your way of life. We've become so tolerant in this country, we're losing a sense of identity and more importantly, decent values and respect.

my reasons are a better quality of life , to say this country is overpopulated is an understatement , if you take into consideration that you can be anywhere in the uk and always less than 50 miles from the coast , [ uk approx 61000,000 population ] , do your sums , the problem with this country is its too easy to gain entry , the visa selection criteria is a joke . i have never been a racist and in fairness you cant blame anybody wanting to come here from poverty stricken eastern european countries , in all honesty polish people from what i have seen are decent hard working honest people , and if i had a buisness i probably would employ them too . the only people who can be blamed [ in my opiniun ] for the mess the uk is in today is the goverment , it is completly out of touch with most of its policies and dare i say incompetant .
i personally feel that this country doesnt deserve decent skilled tradesmen , that is my reason for wanting to leave this once great country .

Very many:
Fulfillment of a lifelong dream....desire to explore & experience the world.... sense of adventure for our children.... again, to bring to life for the kids some of the amazing things they've seen on tv.... the weather.... the fact we can afford to buy a house....like the Australian mindset....

Plus, the UK just isn't doing it for us these days

We are both fed up to the back teeth with how screwed up this country is.

The weather is obviously a big bonus, we hate being stuck indoors constantly because of the cold & wet weather here. Better schooling & education for our kids. We can't afford to own our own home here but will be able to out there. Generally a bit standard of living for us all with more prospects & security for the future. It may not be all we're hoping it'll be but we've got to give it our best shot, if we don't we'll regret not giving it a go for the rest of our lives.

Life is too short .. you've got to try out different things. We live in a world where it is now ( relatively ) easy to go and live in another country and experience a different way of life .. it's got to be done, even if you come back after a couple of years, it's good to try these things

The main reasons we are going is that dh works far too hard here and cos of the equity in our house we'll be able to buy something nice without getting a mortgage. Also it seems such a better place to bring up the bambinos...

More laid back lifestyle, better opportunity for my stepson, the countryside, the wildlife, the weather, and the night sky (oh God I miss that night sky). I felt like I'd gone home when I was there before, and I've wanted to go back permanently ever since. The UK hasn't felt like home for 16 years now.

My 'weaker' reasons are the ones you mentioned but my main reason is that I dont feel very Irish and would be very depressed if I never moved. Australia is a good option. If they were handing out American Visas I'd be off to Miami tomorrow. Thought about moving to England as thats where I was born. Would love to have Old Trafford down the road (I'm really really going to miss the football so much that I've considered staying).

Someone mentioned to me last July about going to Oz. I checked it out that day, called a migration agent and got the ball rolling immediately (I'm a bit impulsive like that). I'm going on my own and so I can make decisions in this way.

It is the developed world over, but at least Australia has a sense of identity, and doesn't allow political correctness to override common sense. In the UK, we provide a police escort and protect for hook man hamza for him to preach for muslims to kill Britons. It's his freedom of speech of course.

We have had the British flag burnt in our streets. At least in Australia, even the (ex)PM used a bit of common sense: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asi...ic/6285665.stm

That's the point - the EX PM had some common sense, this one has already pledged tax payer dollars to protect religious schools from hate attack vandalism. The compo fund for saying sorry is in the wings.

We are moving to give the kids a better chance in life, a bigger house for us all to live in (there are 6 of us), a better life style in general i.e outside rather than being couped up in front of the telly cos its always raining here in not so sunny Yorkshire. I also think that the kids will have a better chance of getting a decent job when they leave school rather than being a trolley dolly in a supermarket.

There is probably more but at this moment in time that is all I can think of.
