Hi guys , this is my situation we moved to Townsville from uk been in nearly 3months which i know is not long ,myself and wayne {hubby} know we will have a better life out here and wayen loves it already ,i know i will love it the place is really growing on me i do get very homesick and miss my family however we have a 14yrs son who in his words hates it he is very homesick we have tried everything to get him to settle .....everything

anyway we have a rental till jan and martyn {son} is happy to see how he feels till then but if he gets any more upset we will take him back before jan but the rental we have is not in a good area its very quite and no kids around at all ...
so we need to get out but 1 we lose our bond ..not a big problem 2 we would have to pay the rentals till the estate agents get someone else so in other words we would have to pay two lots of rentals which we can not afford to do ....see we think if we can move to a area where there are kids he will settle more its just a thought before we pack up and go back to the uk...

Kez, is he not making friends at school?? Sounds like you are really going through it as a family. Persevere with staying if you can. Have you not suggested that he invites a friend from the UK to stay for a bit???

hi he is ok at school he has made some mates and he has asked them to come round but they say they cant or he asked what they do and they tell him they dont go out???

his mates from the uk cant come out yet not for another year at least

Have you thought about advertising your rental, see if you can get someone to take it over for you?

Also, sleepovers are a fairly big thing over here. Maybe invite one or two of his friends over to stay the night. Or invite them for a day out with you sometime.

I hope it gets better for him soon. I know it's hard but you need to try to make him feel good about being here, if he picks up on any negativety he will play on it a little. Poor lad, wish I was near you, he could play with my boy

The sleepover is a good idea, or maybe ringing the parents too and inviting them over. That way you will make new friends too.

Empathy for you - my son was older but felt the same - finally (after almost 2 years as he left and then came back) he is settling in ever so slowly. He doesn't like change - he made some effort but sounds just like what is happening with your boy. fingers crossed - it will work out.
