I take it she likes the cold then
I was warned it got cold down there and was thinking oh yeah aussie cold, bit nippy, might need a jumper lol: it really is bloody freezing, , it was foggy or a minus quite a few nights of our first stay which was in winter.
I didnt mind it, I love the cold. Funny place, lots of new roads, all purpose built, lots of rules, BIL was constantly on at everyone about road rules, seemed to have some terror of being picked up. They lived in a quite expensive unit when we first visited, houses were not cheap! for very surban look alike homes. Nice restaurants. City centre weekdays looked very business like of course. They were happy with the education there, which isnt the case with most rels we visit in other states. Still think its a place people live more for a reason than any lifestyle factors. BIL and wife both need to be there for jobs but have grown to like it. Everyone they knew seemed to be in police or immigration.

I have a couple of good sized cooling boxes and a mozzie net and a whole lot of other belongings in Cape Town that I'm planning to ship separately. I might as well include the cooling boxes rather than buying again. The mossie net will serve as good additional padding, if for nothing else.

Chocolate brown . I found that it was just as good for sleeping by day as it was by night what with flies.
Do you still have much of your Army kit? I reduced it down from the complete kit a few years ago. Now all thats left of it is the bolsak, bush hat, formal cap, web belt, soap box and mozzie net. Oh, and the bush jacket.

Haha - you tinker - I love your way of thinking
Let me know how you get on with the packers (it was this weekend wasn't it?)

From my research, for me - it'll be the good ole M&S undies and my fave brands of make up. I keep reading that clothes shops are not so great over there - my 'cunning plan' is to tell hubbie this, resulting in a few shopping trips here to stock up! Luckily, he's not a member of BE and so only reads the posts I send on to him! RESULT

Books are more expensive too, as are CD's.
No idea why books are so expensive. Smaller market probably accounts for it.
CD's are dearer because in the UK you can buy a CD from Amazon UK or Play for less than a fiver whereas in Australia the cheapest you'll get a CD is about $17.99 generally speaking - unless of course there is a special offer on. Once you've paid shipping costs on an Amazon UK order to Australia then you may as well have bought the CD's in Australia in the first place. Buy $100 worth of CD's from Amazon UK and you'll probably pay nearly $50 in postage costs.
