What is a unit
Apologies for a stupid question ?
What define a unit being a unit, rather than some other type of property, looking at realestate.com.au and find it all confusing. There some nice places though, 4 bedroom house with a pool £135k, that really winds up my workmates here in the UK !!! ha ha ha |

All of the above are 'strata titled' and have 'common' areas, eg gardens, swimming pool, etc, which are available to all residents in the complex. For the maintenance of this, you pay a levy. Hope I've made some sense here?! If not, ask away! :) |

Units generally are detached small bungalows of generally 1-3 bedrooms. They can be on a block with any from 2 units upwards. They can often be joined by their garages and generally come with a small courtyard garden. We are living in one now and for the 2 of us its perfect. We have 2 bedrooms, Kitchen, Laundry, Bathroom with shower and full sized bath, seperate loo, good sized lounge....
Depending what you want, they can be a good option if you dont have enough for a full sized house. They also make good investments as they are highly rentable. Hels |

I lived in one of those "villa's" in NSW for a while, the address was "Unit 8" etc etc. :)

They are strata-titled, just like an apartment block so only have the one street number. Addresses look the same as apartments do - eg 1/99 Happy Street, 2/99 Happy Street, 3/99 Happy St, 4/99 Happy Street. We lived in the Rockdale council area briefly and Rockdale council were very fond of villas - hence there were loads of them. Some areas have none at all - depends on local council regulations. I think nowadays developers are more likely to build townhouses - where once they would have built villas - as you can squeeze another couple onto a quarter-acre block, plus give them an extra bedroom and bathroom on the upper floor. Most of them have a 1970's look about them. The ones we lived in had three 2-br villas in a row (all behind each other), with the fourth across the back of the block. The back one was bigger than the other three (had 3-bedrooms). And the people who lived there thought they were a cut above us, because of it!
