There is not the great difference in price that some think.
In fact some European cars are cheaper here than in UK.

So you reckon I can get the exact model in Adelaide for the same price I sell her for? ( I reckon Ill only get £8-9 for her now  :( Bloody highway robbery if you ask me! hhhrruummpphh!)

I wouldn't have a clue really. You need to do the comparison, but I did one a while ago posted on a similar thread here for a Golf. It was cheaper here new.

...the difference in prices in buying in either country is often not too great, however the difference between the price a UK car dealer will give you to take your car off your hands & the price the Australian car dealer will sell you the same model at, will be much higher.

The problem is compounded for me as I have a UK car, but am living in Italy until I move to Oz so it is not practical for me to attempt to sell privately. I would literally have to drive to Britain & take the best offer I can get from a car dealer, which will be a good few thousand less than its actual value.

I did the price guide and it comes up that its not really worth taking the car but then i looked on the aussie autotrader type sites and all the decent cars are too expensive.

 what to do.........

You will be able to buy for the Red Book price.
Maybe you are looking at dealer prices.
Dealers have to list the selling price by law, but expect to be bargained down heavily. So all of the posted dealer prices are high.

- speedometers – must normally be in kilometres per hour only and cost in Australia about A$200

The main thing that makes it worthwhile for me is the low amount I am likely to get for my car in the UK & the higher relative cost of second hand cars in Oz.

Are there not any requirements with regard to asbestos free brake pads and catalytic convertors?

...UK spec cars have those requirements too, generally just the speedos need changing & check your wing mirrors are flat not convex.

NB. Import duty for 4WD 'off road' vehicles is half that of normal cars.
