Hi

I was wondering if someone could tell me what kinda spider this is?

http://britishexpats.com/photopost/s...cat=500&page=1

It was found in Forest Lake, Brisbane on the right side of the fence (that being the side that wasn't our garden).

Thanks

I think its a St Johns Cross. Normal garden spider, not dangerous, just big. It might not be, I'm usually running in the other direction before finding out what it is, but the hubby thinks it is.

Its not a St Andrews Cross - they look like this .

Its a bit hard to see as you have got it from the underside, but it could be a Tent Spider (although the body looks like its grey, not black).

If anyone is interested in spiders, this is an interesting website (YES, it has pictures, just remember, pictures cant hurt you - & neither can most of the spiders ).

Always makes me laugh when I hear someone has run away from a spider - do you think its going to jump out at you & chase you?

Yes,Spiders are'nt going to chase after people and bite them, like they would some small insect, they are terrified of humans, it would be like a mouse chasing and attacking a dinosour. Spiders will only bite you if in self defence if you pick one up or touch it.. The same applies to snakes.

Have you seen the photos of the Desert Spider in Iraq??!!! With their leg span, they'd catch up with Linford Christie and his lunchbox in 3 seconds!

It's a Lesser Spotted Nipple Piercing spider.

Possibly, although they often have yellow/orange/red stripes on their legs, that one looks like its white/grey. And the web looks wrong, Golden Orbs usually weave a large round web which is very neat, that one looks messy.

Either way, its not going to hurt you, just leave it in the garden to catch its insects & keep them out of your house (or rather, your neighbours since it was in their yard ) .

We recently had the pleasure of a big spider in our car.
We had just stopped in the car wash, then as it started, the hairy fella ran out of the ac vent and across the dash board. He then sat there looking at us as we sat looking at him. One of the longest car washes we'd ever had!!!

I don't mind spiders so long as they keep to themselves.
Hitching a ride in the car is not allowed.
