This is a great idea for when someone needs to bring over a large item. Some kind of shared container thread would be useful, especially if people emigrating have some space spare and a contribution to the cost of a container would be welcomed.

I guess some white lies would have to be told about who owns the stuff for customs, but for ordinary items it shouldn't be an issue.

when my FIL died we had a few things to ship over- dining table and chairs, workbench, 2 rugs etc, amazing drinks cabinet. We booked a share container with Allied Pickfords- they arrange the other sharers. I think we had a 5th or a quarter of the container.

It cost about £1000 door to door (Surrey to Melbourne) and was nice and painless.

Default how much did your shipping cost this year?

Hi Guys!

I was just wondering what sort of quotes are coming in for shipping a container from UK to Aus recently?

And do you think it's worth taking the car now that the exchange rate is so low?

Anyone done it recently???

We are now looking at quotes
Got one for John mason for approx £3,700 for a 20ft container
But then you have to insure it and pay the other little fees!
40ft is about £5700 x

two days ago :$

That's minus insurance etc :$ but surely wouldn't make that much difference - trouble is we are really only just over on a 20ft container - there's no way we'd fill a 40ft!

Hi!

Most international removal companies offer both exclusive containers AND shared (also known as Groupage) containers.

The moving company loads your items with other customers of theirs that have belongings going to the same destination, at the same time in a shared container (so you dont have to find them yourself!) and you only pay for the space you use.

Hope that helps.

Kirsty

I reckon that's about £1000 more than we paid 3.5 years ago....

I'm about to get some quotes this week, so I'll let you know what we get.... either way it's going to be a bit costly!

White lies and AQIS? hmmmmmm. I guess if you're not worried if you get your stuff or not.

As has been said, get on to the shippers, they all do shared/groupage containers.

There's no way I would allow a stranger to put their belongings in a container, with their items travelling under my name.

Call me a cynic, but I think Shapelle Corby had a dispute over who owned what and who put what where... and we all know where she is now.

She has the distinct handicap of being as guilty as sin though, just look at her family

Default Mechanics tools shipping

I have done a search but not too much on tool boxes this size.
I am a kia and peugeot master tech so have a fair amount of tools.
Just looking to see what other people have paid for theres. I have a price of about £600 sea freight seems good to me.

My tool box is 5ft x 5ft x 1.5ft and tool box alone is about 300kgs i think maybe more

Has anyone shipped a box this size and roughly what price I am looking at paying. Not sure if i am going to get charged more if the weight is heavier.

Thanks

Unhappy Re: space needed in a container going to brisbane

We have moved recently and due to our daughter using Pickfords 4 years ago to emigrate we decided that we would go with them as well - worse decision of our lives - instead of the maximum 14 weeks it took 21 weeks (stayed in their UK warehouse for 14 weeks) and 6 items broken (1 of them not replaceable)7 books damaged, all kitchen equipment just thrown into large boxes and not wrapped so they have all yellowed - 1 item (antique silver pill box) totally missing - they are under paying us the insurance for damaged bits, not paying anything for the yellowed goods or the missing item - I would never ever recommend or use Pickfords for any move.

We used them and found them great- I guess it all depends if they have a container already going to your destination.

They did think they lost an item, but as the guy was at our place taking details, a courier turned up with it. They were very professional about it all.
