Dysons are expensive, but other makes of vacuum are available:D and reasonably priced.

In general, if you already have it, bring it. If you've not got something, personally, I would wait until you get here. Big ticket items such as kitchen appliances and furniture are pretty well priced here, if you shop around and of course you will get the warranty with them.

Shops like Fantastic Furniture and Le Cornu do furniture packages, for very reasonable prices, if you are looking to kit out whole rooms.

Bring everything. Dyson vacuums are more expensive but can easily be imported from Europe - and when the VAT is deducted you often pay less than you would over there.

Good luck.

A decent mattress is extortionate here. White goods are also expensive so bring yours. Books- more than 3 times the price in the UK.

Mattresses are very expensive and appliances only slightly more, but books? We pay the same price as the UK on the internet. Most people buy their books online now, which is why so many bookstores have closed in Australia, UK, US etc.

Houses are generally bigger in OZ so takes more t fill them so bring everything!!
Mattresses are more expensive....... But you can buy cheap bed frames from Ikea..there is loads of Garage sales if you dont mind them, we boght the kids loads of toys and books from them while waiting on our shipping to arrive! Kmart is cheap for duvets (doonas) and pillows and the like or Target if you want to spend a little more :)

I was shocked at the quality in Fantastic Furniture, cheap by Australian standards but not by UK ok ones. Rubbish design and build quality.

Decent furniture costs an absolute fortune in Australia, and yes you can bring stuff with you but I suppose it's hard to do that when you have no idea on what your house will be like.

I'm trying to figure out how to import one from the US. Guess large items like this they can still screw the Australian consumer. $1000 mattress in the USA (on special) is close to $5-6000 here.

Extortion is the correct word.
