What is the quickest way to get a visa for Aus?
[FONT=Tahoma]I am a chartered certified accountant with loads of work experience and want to live in Australia (Victoria) for a year or two before we decide if we really want to immigrate for good. I have British and South african citizenship. Does anyone have some tips? Thanks![ /FONT]

I sent meds and pcc at the beginning of November (when requested by co) and am hoping to have my visa granted any day now.

A 136 skilled independant visa allows you to work and live anywhere in Australia

I'm a qualified accountant as well and came out here on a 136 MODL. I can work and live wherever I choose.
You'll need to be 'assessed' by an Australian accountancy body (I used ICAA) and satisfy the work experience criteria as well as the usual police/medicals etc.
I found it quite straightforward.

Send your CV off to some accountancy firms in Australia, or network where you currently are to see if any one has any vacancies in Victoria. There is a shortage of accountants in Australia so getting a temporary 457 visa shouldn't be difficult, and if you decide you want to emigrate for good you can apply for a permanent 136 MODL visa.
For more information about migrating to Australia, you're better off posting in the forum 'Australia and NZ Immigration'.

Or - and this is very common - once the person is working on a 457 and the employer's recruitment problem is solved, the employer refuses to sponsor for permanent residence.
