what plumbing qualifications needed

hi
we've just started the process off looking into moving to aus, im going to be moving over as a plumber and wondered if anybody could give me some info as to the best course to take, what qualifications are required. I have only been in the trade for 2 years, im also thinking of doing a few courses before i move, things like air conditioning systems, brazing, unvented hot water. Are these worth doing. Any ifo i can get will be much appreciated

hello
i am now in the process of applying to get my skills recognised, this is required before applying as a plumber, check the vetassess website they will give you all info needed on skills recognition, it is a long process and expensive so be sure you do your reasearch. I have found the people on this forum very good at giving advice and help somthing which is invaluable and often a lifeline when in need. Alternatively you could consult a agent for advice there are some good ones on here. best of luck and let me know if i can help anymore.
john

Could be wrong, but think you need 4 years for a positive skills assessment.

Someone will know fa sure!

cheers guys

I'll have to look into having to have 4 years for a positive skills assesment, hopefully somebody on here will know more, and if that is the case what other options would be available,

good luck with your skill assesment john

I'm not too sure anymore. It doesn't say you do on the Vetassess site (or I can't find it ) but that doesn't mean you don't. Maybe an agent can confirm whether you do or not?

Of course anyone applying via the TRA need 4 years with a formal apprentiship. (ie, anyone not from: United Kingdom, India, Sri Lanka, South Africa and the Philippines )

Doesnt say, but OH is a plumber, migrated here last year and the requirement for the then 136 MODL Skilled Visa was a minimum 4 years experience, last 18 months recent employment relevant and prove an apprenticeship and qualifications. He has City & Guilds mechanical skills, plumbing and advanced craft and years of reference letters. Also you must have been employed full time as a plumber during the last 18 months.

TRA is not bad, paper work and reference letters and list of tools used is long winded but they are generally very quick to get back to you. Dont know anything about Vetassess.

They dont solder pipes here - they make fittings and weld - a lot different from the UK and many get a bit freaked when they first land - in WA you do a practical skills assesment which includes welding before you get a temporary migrants trade licence - you then have to sit a course and pass the test for the WA water regulations and practices.

Good luck

It depends on what state you are thinking of they will all reconise your skills at TRA stage but in qld i have to do a college course to upgrade uk qualifcation and i have 20 years experince so allow a year when you come over to upgrade and expect some companys to offer you a lower wage as you are only granted a provissional licence hope this helps
