what NOT to forget !!

Shippers coming 20th Dec and flights booked for 10th Jan to take us to Oz. Busy clearing the crap, doing market stalls and preparing for the move but what essentials mustnt we forget.

Not concerned with stuff going in container, more stuff I may need on my person. Do I need and medical records ?? dental ?? anything to help with getting a rental ??

Just trying to think outside the container !!:)

You would be best to bring any children / partner with you on the plane.

Okay, I'll be the serious one...

Stuff to help with a rental...if you rented in the UK, then a letter from your landlord that you were the best tenant ever. If you owned, then maybe a letter from the bank wouldn't go amiss. We didn't have any rental history in Aus (and we had owned for 11 years back in Canada), so we were in a tight spot when they were looking for refs. We also had a letter from hubby's employer outlining that his job was a permanent position and what the salary was.

Medical--if you have any ongoing condition in the family that you will have to seek treatment for here, then yes, bring a copy of the records. I see a specialist here every six months or so and I brought all my surgical records with me.

Dental...I wouldn't bother unless there's some major issue that's going to need attention here asap.

We had a file in our carry on with all the important stuff...birth certificates, marriage certificate, life insurance docs, medical records, that sort of thing. Basically any official type document that you don't have extra copies of and couldn't get them without a lot of bother.

Killjoy...

Ok... I'll play the game... I carried my filofax with all my contacts essential info in it onto the plane... That dates me eh?

Originals of all important docs... Essentials only. Driving licences, birth certs, passports, etc etc etc....

Cash

Gameboy x 4 for the x4 kids

Decent book to read... Not that i read it, I get travel sick.

Travel sickness pills.

Large Selection of hard boiled sweets for take offs and landings and to silence the kids..

Toothbrush per person and one small toothpaste.

In our hold luggage we brought with us... A duvet cover and pillow case and bottom sheet per person... A knife fork and spoon per person... And mug (ok I'll admit it, I packed my wedgwood coffee mug... Cant drink with out it) A few decent knives.. A bread knife being one of em... and a tin opener. One Unopened box of teabags. Clothes. My Grandfathers Violin, no seriously, too precious to go into the tea chests...

i brought several Lush solid shampoo bars... They can be used as a body wash, instead of washing powder for smalls, as well as shampoo and are dead handy for "camping trips" .... And they dont leak into your suitcase.

Clothes....

Will add to list if I think of anything...

We we going to a furnished holiday rental for 3 weeks....

Believe it or not I stuffed in a handful of salt n pepper sachets too...

Hey, they're down to 3.99/kg. Bargain! :p

I bought a bunch because they were verboten for so long in this house and now the kids won't eat them and they're turning all brown and spotty. I see loaves of banana bread this weekend...

Good jewellery, tissues. Just a point to note: Do not under any circumstances allow anyone remotely close emotionally, go to the airport with you.
