Default What is that noise???

Hi

Wondering if anyone has any idea's about this REALLY loud and annoying noise we can hear every night! It sounds like a moped starting up and lasts for about 7-10 seconds... At first I was moaning about the hoons but I think it's some kind of animal. Any idea's what type of animal may be causing the noise?

We live about an hour south of Perth if that makes any odds.

Want some kip but the noise is so loud and regular... must be keeping the whole estate awake. It started on Thursday night.

Thanks all

The only bird I know of that can make or emulate such noises is a Superb Lyre Bird.

THe link's been posted on here before, but it's always a nice watch.

Can't really suggest anything else.

Sounds like a kind of frog that lives in WA, I saw some at Perth Zoo, there is a display and this tyupe of frog/toad does sound just like a motorbike when calling for it's mate! Can't remember exactly what it was called but I am sure you could find out if you did an internet search.

If it lasts 7-10 seconds then it must be the mating noise of the Aussies male.

They tend to call in the early (3-4) morning, Glad we haven't got one in our yard.

Thanks everyone for the replies- I think it must be one of those frogs. Can't believe the noise they make! And what is more worrying is that the link Luma put up says breeding time is summer.... are we going to be swamped with them

Off to get some precious shut eye before the mating call commences
