LOL, Yeah I second that, This is great thread for letting off steam and if its one sided just don't join in. Let me whinge in peace for a change.

Back to the nanny state, I'm basing my judgment and I know its subjective but 30 odd years in the UK and I've had more bureaucratic battles in 10 months than an entire lifetime back home. And to me it definitely *feel* a lot more anal when it comes to ticking boxes and supplying papers. (I still don’t have my primary producers’ certificate despite 3 trips to the RTA now. Each time a different set of papers or info required)

Well get your arse over here and do my wiring and sod their certification. :D

It is ridiculous, and its on-going. I've now been told by the foreman who is supposed to take care of the whole project, that he can't do the telstra/foxtel/trench digging thing, it has to be me.

Telstra (sorry the sub-contractor they passed me on to) tells me they will ring back in 2 days to tell me when they might be available to come out and look at what has to be done.

THEN I have to co-ordinate a trench digger, and electrician, and a foxtel cable guy to all turn up on the same day as the Telstra guy deems appropriate.

This is mad I tells ya

At least you managed to find a bunch of electricians, Here on the mid north coast and slightly rural just multiply all your experences by 10 and you have some idea what its like here.

One tip for you all and seems to work a treat:- Lie! Lie your hind teeth off. It definately doesn't pay to tell the truth out here. So when trying to buy ring main wire and they ask are you certified just say yes and bobs your auntie, they never check up on you. Works for all other things out here too. If you tell the truth next thing you know the project your working on costs a lot more in both time, people and expense.

Couldn't have put it better myself! So I won't.

YES ! YES ! YES ! That's exactly what I feel. There is also this massively overwhelming desire and expectation to CONFORM and if you don't you don't get anywhere. I guess it's what they mean by the "Tall Poppy Syndrome".

Working conditions are not good. Most employers are understaffed and you are expected to work ridiculous hours to meet the ridiculous expectations of bully-boy clients who everyone is too scared to say "No" to.
