what location
Hi
Another newie to this interesting & informative forum.
How have you worked out what location to move to?(apart from the obvious if you have family in a certain place).
We have a young family and are getting more & more fed up with the problems and crime of the uk. Very worried about the future here for our children and so looking at Australia as a new start, but do not know where to start.
My husband has a skilled occupation so could will apply for permanent residency?
How much would it cost approx to apply for visa, meds etc.
Sorry too many questions at once but a novice at this.

Hi
You sound in a very similar position to us two years ago.We felt (and still do) the country was going to the dogs and the future not bright for our two kids. Now two years on and £2000 or so later the future looks better than ever as our visa was granted yesterday. As for where to go, we are going to give Brisbane a try even though we no nobody there. There seem many great places so can be difficult to decide , but use this site and links to formulate your own opinion.I'm sure the more you investigate the more you'll want to go!
Cheers
Steve

Take a map, lay it out on the kitchen table. Then take a pin, ..... sorry, couldn't resist
I can't remember how we settled on Brisbane. I think the weather, was a big factor, as was the lower cost of living compared with Melbourne and Sydney. Then there was the laid-back, friendly attitude of the locals.

Hi and welcome to the site
We originally had been thinking of relocating to Brisbane but after talking to some Aussies about humidity and other issues we have now decided on Adelaide as, by all accounts, its a very family friendly state, cheap housing and cost of living. Hubby has relatives in Perth but we weren't keen to go West!
We were applying under the STNI visas for Adelaide but hubby's trade (electrician) has now gone on MODL list so we are going that route now.
In answer to your question about fees:
If you use an agent then you will have their fees to add on to the following:-
Skills assessing body (this will be the TRA for a lot of skills) normally A$500 (approx £207)
Department of Immigration application charge - A$1,845 (approx £765)
Medicals - approx £150 - £200 per adult and child over 11 - the cost includes the X-ray
Police reports £10 per person over 16
Cost of certified copies of documents - can vary considerably (nil if you know a policeman, solicitor or JP) but will be at least £50 and probably closer to £100 or more depending on number of docs to be certified
These figures were provided to us by an agent so if someone reads this and sees that there are fees the agent missed out, I would be interested to know
All the best
