Re: what if your kid's not sporty!!
I have two daughters, 13 and 6, both born here and neither are that sporty. However, one is very good at dance (Ballet, jazz ect) and they are both very good swimmers, probably because of the backyard pool.
At my daughters sports day they both were in the last 10, we all laughed they just had fun. Thats what it's all about. Your son will love it here.
By the way I hated sport as a kid cos it was too bloody cold to run around half naked. Here is different, you get heat exhaustion!!!!!

hi lisa,
love that expression 'the backyard' firstly... if it had a pool it must have been huge compared to my perception of a backyard... ie. our first little flat in a posh part of newcastle prior to the arrival of our two little monsters, back yard was honestly about two metres squared, sitting on top of each other, literally, when having a beer at the end of the day (and that included the neighbours as well)! and tiny, tiny, cute flat (one bedroom) worth today about £120,000...
now you know why we feel the need to come to brisbane... space!!!!
and thankyou for the info re your daughters... cheered me up lots...
me and hubby have two kids, son is fab but not into sport much and we hence worried loads about the decision to emigrate, thinking all australians are born with a surf board strapped to their feet... where therefore would our little babe stand and how would he feel!
daughter on the other, she's two and i swear, the size and build of her (she takes after her dad), she could, and probably wants, to play rugby... but only if the ball was barbie pink, i'm sure you'll understand...
nice talking to you, honeybob...

[Hi Honeybob,
we lived in a council flat in poplar before we came to australia 20 yrs ago, and so I know that the mention of a backyard pool sounds quite flash but everyone has one. The gardens are big in comparison to London, but then there is a lot more space here.
You'll love it here

Honeybob,
It's winter, yesterday was 27 deg and the sun is shining brilliantly.
However, it has'nt rained for about a month and it's very dry everywhere.
Can you bring some with you when you come over
The summer tends to be wetter, so we should get rain soon.
April will be here in no time,
see you soon

As a mum of two great grown up lads, may I put in my "penneth" of advice? Let the lad be! He will find his own niche, in his own time, and be his own person. You getting over anxious will make him over anxious...as we all know, our kids pick up the vibes!
Go for it, young lady...enjoy your life and Good Luck!
