What to get qualified in?
Hi,
We are heading over to Perth as soon as our house sells. We already have our PR visa through my wifes qualifications. I am a kitchen fitter but have no formal qualifications and can turn my hand to most things. I am wanting to qualify in a trade once in perth and settle in one trade rather than a jack of all trades . Question is what pays really good money and is in demand? I wouldn't mind FIFO, I just want to make as much as I can ( same as everyone I suppose :p). I have seen $100k plus jobs for tyre fitters, Gyprockers, ect in remote areas or the mines but I know these are hard to get into without knowing someone? Any advise/contacts would be great. Thanks, tony. :) |

The ideas I've had so far due to seeing jobs on Seek with big bucks $$ were, Kitchen fitter (as thats what I do now) hydraulic hose fitter Gyprocker Truck driver (but every one goes for that one) Truck tyre fitter Property maintenance/Handyman (not so well paid) Please fell free to add to list. |
Re: What to get qualified in?
Dont fancy retraining as a doctor perchance? They are always in demand.

I would probably deviate and become a carpenter, you already do woodwork so have some experience. Would compliment you within your resume. Truck drivers- two a penny but a good one is hard to find. Truck tyre fitter, I did this, boy it will be the hardest days work you will ever do. I suggest something which is high in demand and gives the opportunity to branch out on your own. Plumber. Electrician. Carpenter. The big bucks are for remote areas, you have to be prepared to live in or to fly in to these places. It will be a shock if your not used to it. Port Headland in WA or the Bowen Basin can be pretty boring places. Stick with what you know and qualify in the trade your already working in. this coupled with your experience should help you get a decent job pretty quickly. |

Doctor takes many years to train in and don't actually earn that much money, unless at consultant level.

Thanks, tony. :) The problem for you may be that you'll need a certificate for just about everything and it can be expensive and time consuming going over things that you may already know how to do. Study the employment pages on-line and try and pick an area to study in. Forget trying to earn sky high wages straightaway - it simply easy isnt that easy. |
Re: What to get qualified in?
Doctors pay is good once you have been qualified a few years.
Here is advertisement Gps wanted in Sydney and all states wage mentioned is a lousy $200-300,000:eek: Not exactly low paid. However to be a doctor does take years at Uni and futher study to be a GP or specialist. http://mycareer.com.au/jobs/central-...enhanced&s=105 I think anything medical or engineering would be good as usually jobs and can use your qualification in other countries. Thanks, tony. :) If you have a reasonable grasp of written English, then have a look at qualifying as a bid or tender writer. It's perhaps not that dynamic, but you can work from home, or anywhere there's a laptop and a network connection - coffee shop, wherever. Courses are relatively easy to get onto, and don't last too long. Looks like a raft of them in the UK - you could qualify before you left. Here in Sydney, professional bid writers should command between $70-120k earnings. S |
