Default What exactly do they do at Medicals?

Going for Medicals this Saturday. Me, hubby and 4 kids.
What exactly do they do for their money?
I presume BP, weight, heart check, medical/drug history.
What else?
Is there blood tests involved?
Do any bits of your anatomy get checked out.

Bit of advice - Shop around for the medicals. Our quotes were:
Glasgow £495 :scared:
Edinburgh - £250

So guess where we're going to get them done!
Cheers,

I assume you mean for Australia. If so then all that you mentioned plus urine test for diabetes, blood test for HIV, coordination tests (standing on one leg, following the finger, being hit on the knee with a hammer etc).

You also get an eye test but no hearing test. Your rude bits get a bit of a poke but nothing too much.

You get weighed and your height measured. If you're a bit of a dumpling then just starve for a couple of days beforehand, wear light clothing, and high heels.

You get poked in the kidneys, liver, and various other organs that you didn't know you had.

You can cheat at the eye test by memorising all the letters on the wall when you first walk in the room and then reciting them perfectly from 15 paces :-)

You get questioned on your medical history a little bit but not much.

Takes about 30-40 minutes in total plus about 563 hours in the waiting room if it doubles up as an NHS establishment (guess why I'm emigrating).

we had em in July 2 adults 3 kids, no xrays for under 11s no blood tests for under 15s, no standing on one leg for anyone? no follow the finger, there was no poking except in my family jewels
If anyone has any body piercings then they have to have a Hepatitus B test (earings are OK)
The quack we used in Manchester relaxed everyone he was good with the kids his fees £500

Its no great shakes don't worry

Hello - had my medical yesterday: £180 all in all in Plymouth - still thought that was a bit steep after looking at other folk's fees on here...
I wondered as the doctor asked me to strip down to my pants whether I should have asked him to draw the blinds to the picture window overlooking the flowerbeds leading up to the main entrance of the Nuffield Hospital!
Get stressed knowing I'm about to have my BP taken officially - in fact got so worked up about it yesterday that by the time the doctor took it it had shot through the roof!! Still apart from waiting for the HIV result, that's another hurdle cleared...

HIV test - really??
What if I decide, at the end of the day, not to go and I've had a HIV test?
No more credit/mortgage etc.??????????????

Its the LFT's (liver function test) I'd be worried about!!!!!
Do they also get checked?
Will my hubby, Micky, get his hawmaws checked?
Do dangle-berries need to be rid of?
Why do I need to wear matching undies?????
What EXACT bits do I get examined??

What about the kids.
My oldest is nearly 14. 'I'm no peein' into any bottle'
So will I have probs with her?
What will they do with kids aged 14, 12, 6 and 2?
The 2 year old is NOT potty trained and can't pee to order!
Cheers,
Shona x
(hopefully in Perth come January)

Shona The HIVs are for this purpose only so don't go on your GP records they go straight to Adelaide or AHC via you. He should get his bollocks out I had to, bit of undie co ordination looks better!
Our kids were ok about the peeing they had a laugh about it.

"You also get an eye test but no hearing test."

Ha! My hearing test involved the nice lady doctor whispering from one side of the room and asking me to repeat what she had said then swapping ears and repeating the process.

Very scientific I'm sure.......

I had the same as kernowjmh23 with the blood pressure. Apparently there is a recognised syndrome called 'white coat hypertension' which basically means that you don't go to the doctor enough to be on first name terms, and get a bit nervy that your whole future could be resting on a little rubber bulb thingy, and then have to pay £205 extra for the visit to a cardiologist to find out that in fact your pressure is normal......rambling, me? Surely not.

MAX

PS £75 each not including the chest Xray. Done next day in Birmingham. A bit of a drive but fairly hassle free. (Apart from the blood pressure)

Oppsie yes... Medical £70 each... HIV test £36 each and xrays £35 each so yes a slightly expensive proceedure... seeing as there were 2 of us and only one of us is earning grrrrrrrrrrr

One thing I beg you all to be aware of... if you are using a recomended hospital for xrays and a different doc for medicals, be warned... there is an extra charge for HIV test.. ask about them before you think the medicals are cheap!

I was quoted £70 each for my son and I but the doctor did not mention (EVEN WHEN ASKED ABOUT!!!) that the HIV test had to be done in a BUPA hospital at an extra cost to me!!!

You have been warned!

When I said "yes",he lent over showing me a double thumbs up sign & said "You must be deaf ,mate!"
