What Electrical Stuff Will Work?
So the shippers are coming next Tuesday :scared: and we're in the midst of sorting the house.
So what electrical stuff works in Oz? We're only hoping to take small stuff like radios, hairdryers etc (so no vacuum cleaners or washing machines) and I'm assuming they just need a change of plug. Hubby is a bit more sceptical about compatibility, so can anyone shed a little light? Thanks, Sam. |
Re: What Electrical Stuff Will Work?
Oh its exciting isn't it? We have the shippers booked for the end of March and was wondering the same question. Also do the same light fittings fit those in Aus.
Good luck to you and hope all goes well. |

Re: What Electrical Stuff Will Work?
Briefly:
radios: yes hair-dryers, kettles: possibly (it's 10 amps here, not 13, so 3kW stuff won't work) TVs: maybe light fittings: same size bayonet and ES |
Re: What Electrical Stuff Will Work?
Hello,
If you can, take your washing machine. They are not very good here and front loaders are expensive. Personally I would take everything that fits in the shipment (assuming you are paying a fixed amount). Regards Alistair |

Regards Alistair Washing machine a must, and believe it or not my beloved dyson, they cost a bomb over here. Computer of course and kitchen appliances, all electrical tools. Bring with you a heap of 4 way extension sockets and change the uk plug on the end for an aussie one, this will tide you over intil you start converting over all your electrical plugs. The cheap ones from B&Q are great get about 5 so you can have one in each room, great for those adapter plugs which you wont ever be able to change. Hope this helps Jenny |
Re: What Electrical Stuff Will Work?
Is it worth taking the dishwasher?
I've heard conflicting reports about this, mianly that Oz houses have no room for them.... |

Hope this helps Jenny well I say everything, we brought a cheap telly with us, didn't work at first but got it converted for 30 bucks.. older dvd players that can't be made multi region I'd say leave behind unless you want to use it in the spare room for guests.... |
Re: What Electrical Stuff Will Work?
Dishwasher yep we even bought that, it happens to be plumbed into the laundry room though. Kitchen can be very limiting on space. The new place we have bought has a dishwasher in the kitchen which is included in the sale, we did ask them to take it but its classed as a fixture over here so now we have 2.
Jenny p.s have also saved our old video and portable tv that doesnt work here so our son can watch tapes etc in the spare room. Plus and not to be too negative if you end up going back you will be glad of your english tv. |

Re: What Electrical Stuff Will Work?
If you have an upright dyson and like them then bring it, ours was a few years old and we couldnt be bothered to clean it so donated to friends, shock horror when i arrived they are mainly the pull along kind, you can get dysons but we worked out it'd be cheaper to get it at comet and have it shipped!!!! In the end we bought an Ozzie one,not as good as the dyson but OK.
Our digital answerphone and cordless phone didnt work. Neither did our TV but we got a free view box thingy for it here and we get TV now. All other stuff worked, just needed lots of plugs. |
