Just continuing the theme of a previous post - and I notice there is a helpfull sites thread near this one, I also came across driving license, sponsers and medicles threads/posts recently!

Now, one big thing I'd say, without wishing to cause offence to Australia's indigenous people who have been there much longer than the UK has been settled, is that the UK has a much longer history, pre-1788 and all that.

For example, last week, in Hawkshead in the Lake District, we had lunch in the 15th century Minstrels Gallery. I'm sitting there all the time thinking, wow, just imagine, people were here more than 300 years before 'Cooky' discovered' the east coast of Australia and nearly 400 years before John Batman announced 'this is the place for a village' (Melbourne). History!

Started this thread cos I am interested in finding out what the UK has that Oz doesn't......yet.

Keen to find out what products, food, businesses, shops etc people miss out in Oz, be interesting to find out. So far people have said that they miss the cheap clothing and british telly (minority though, LOL), anything else?

The best I've come across is Little Creaters Pilsner, a local Fremantle brewery, just beautiful.

Just remembered the crispy duck with pancakes from Asda for about £6! Loved it on a Friday night, stick it in the oven, bit of hoi sin sauce and spring onions, no chance of that here. God I miss decent supermarkets!

I am always baffled by the term aussie food. I cook absolutely no differently here than when I lived at home. I use meat/chicken/fish with veg or salad or rice or pasta all of which are identical if not better in some cases than I could buy in England. If you mean that you can't get a decent microwavable prawn curry in Woolies then I guess you are right.

Don't know where you come from in the UK but I have to buy free range chicken here as the normal chickens have 4 drumsticks and don't taste like chicken as we know it. What's all that about? Mouldy salad and strawberries here. Don't know what people are on about when they say the fruit and veg is better. Have they never been to Sainsburys? If you love it or hate it here, you have to agree that the variety of food here is not comparable to the UK. I just find that every week we are eating either free range chicken, leg of lamb or something with heart smart mince. My shopping costs about $300 per week and we don't have luxuries. Cereal or toast for breakfast, sandwiches for lunch and meat and potatoes, veg or salad, or pasta for dinner. Oh, yes, forgot about the great barby food (barby packs are inedible). Don't even mention gravy...

I don't mean to offend, but anyone who lives here and thinks the food is better than the UK must have not had a very good diet.

Aye, you're right, the meat and veg are nicer and fresher than the UK IMO, but the take aways are appalling.

The missus cooks a cracking Sunday roast but only when we have Bisto gravy granules
