What documents to take??
 

Packers come next week so need to sort my paperwork asap...

What documents do we need for renting, car insurance, children (starting school), getting job as teacher, bank accounts etc etc???

All the vital ones need to go in luggage so dont want to miss things out....

You say getting job as a teacher - have you got your QCT Registration sorted out?

No have done nothing for teaching as i plan to not work for 6 months plus, after 17 years teaching and being a deputy head I quite fancy retraining or becoming more specialist. But i might need to teach or may go demented being mum so what is the process then???

Unless you definitely don't want to teach I would recommend you have the following information available for teaching otherwise you may not receive the level of pay you are entitled to:
On letter headed paper, ensure that the Principals from each school you have taught in include: your starting / finishing dates; that you took no unpaid leave of absence (unless you did and therefore you will require exact dates); your salary and position. You will obviously require your certificates / transcripts (my NPQH was irrelevant) etc.
Brisbane is a good place but very expensive compared to the UK

Hi jen

So a quick look on gtc suggests i need things signing in uk etc.... But it is confusing. I have a ba ( geography) and primary pgce... But despite alll me experience and responsibility i think there will be some issues with work. ( a friend with same qualifications could only teach in private sector in NSW). So what do i need to do next before leaving uk just so i can work at some point??? OH on 457 so not expecting vice principal job and definately would only want parttime as have two little ones...

If you are going on a temporary visa you may have difficulty getting a teaching job at all. You will need permanent residence for any long term ongoing job with a state public service. You may get a bit of casual relief from time to time and then all depending which state you are heading for, there will be fierce competition for the jobs in "plum" spots (where people are prepared to live) and if you are offered a job at all it could be way out to Woop Woop where no one else wants to live. You will need transcripts of your training courses (how many hours for each subject etc) and they can be hard to get hold of if you didnt have one to begin with and are out of the country into the bargain.

As for documents for getting kids into schools - you need their vaccination books, evidence of visa status, evidence of permanent (ish) address (ie not a motel), and evidence of their dates of birth. If they have disabilities or other special needs then any piece of paper outlining diagnosis, assessments and programming otherwise schools tend not to bother needing reports etc.

I think documents for school will vary even from one school to another, and also depend on how old the child is.
In Adelaide, we've just enrolled my son in one of the "best" state school for Year 8. And the document they needed were only lease agreement and utility bill. For our second, 10 years in primary school, the same documents. They were surprised when we gave them the vaccination reports that we brough from England.

I think if you have all the documents ready (vacc reports, school reports, birth certificate) it is no harm to bring them.

I'm not sure to be honest as I've a 4 year BEd so my case was fairly straightforward, and I'm on a PR visa, but I don't think that will make much difference. Just look at the docs above that Sportsendurance said you needed to gather, and all of that info is on the QCT website anyway for you to double check, get it certified and if you'd like to work when you arrive in Oz, get it sent off before you go, as they are not very quick with processing! Mine took 112 days and I was already living in Australia when I submitted it all!

That's not entirely the case as I know someone whose working in Queensland on a WHV and was offered a contract pretty much a few days after landing, which is several months long.
