What do i have to pay attention for in job offers/contracts?
HI,
it looks like my friend will get a job offer from a Melbourne company.
Now we want to know of what we have to pay attention when they show us a job contract. About working times, holiday, salary and so on??

Not sure you got to look for anything special....same as UK. Make sure you get a decent super, I suppose, but that's about it

Spread of hours that can be worked and the rate at which paid. ie u think that u have a normal 9-5 job, but your contract says that they can get u to start work as early as 6am and finish as late as 10pm.
Days that are normal workdays. Saturday may be considered a normal workday.
How hours worked are calculated. ie 40 hrs a week/170 a month/ xx a quarter/xx per annum.
The option of "time in lieu"...is this granted at equal hours ie work 3 hrs on a sat, get 3 hrs off on a tues, or double time ie work 3 on a sat, get 6 hrs off on a mon.
Salary - how calculated, when reviewed. TRY TO HAVE A SALARY REVIEW AT 3 MONTHS OR 6 MONTHS INSERTED INTO YOUR CONTRACT. It can't hurt, and often helps.
If overtime/expenses payments made, how are these claimed for and how often.
Car/phone/whatever else included? The option to sort yourself out regarding these if u wanted to...the option to package these into pre-tax package.
Annual leave loading payable on holiday leave.
Try to get an entitlement to 5 days unpaid leave into your contract.
That's all that I can think of for now.
