What to do with container if it arrives first

Are we going to need to physically be in Oz for when our container arrives from the UK? I have family there if the need arrises, so would it be possible to store the container (or its contents) reasonably cheaply until we arrive?

So long as you have an address for it go to you can send it. You might have trouble with customs if you aren't physically in the country when it arrives have a look at the website to check the rules.

You can't use the words "store" and "reasonably cheaply" in the same sentence. Storage by the shipper can be relatively expensive once the container has been released, and you may have only 7 days from that date to advise them what you want to do with it before they start charging you - fees can differ from business to business. This doesn't help if the notification is lost in the mail system. The OH's letter from the shippers took six days to get from Hemmant (Brisbane) to Clayfield (Brisbane), a distance of only about less than 7kms, walking time of about 2 hours. Can't remember the exact figures, but it wasn't cheap per day.

Hi, our container arrived at least 6 weeks in Oz before we did, and then we still had to find a rental when we arrived in Perth so our container was in storage for longer. It was cheaper to put it in storage in Oz than UK. We had friends in Perth and used their address as contact, but to be honest never needed it.
It was all straight forward.
