Hi, we will be visiting Melbourne in about 3 weeks to sort out schools, house to rent, bank accounts etc before we move out at the end of March. We have a mortgage here and have never rented a house. What paperwork will we need to bring and what can we use instead of references?
We are coming on a 457 2 year contract and OH company should be able to provide the paperwork to let them know he has an income.

We also brought a copy of our mortgage statement from Canada saying we had always paid on time and never missed a payment. Our short term holiday house also provided us a reference saying we paid on time and left the house spotless.

Paper in the form of three months' rental upfront in cash usually gives a good reference.

We did something similar. We gave them a letter from the estate agent selling our house in the UK mentioning how much it was on the market for. Letter from the bank about mortgage repayments sounds like a good idea too. As well as bank statement - as long as you have money in the bank
