We have had a shipping quote today, looking at our larger items we have started to think about what is actually worth bringing. So can anyone list some online furniture retailers, mainly in SE Queensland?

We are big fans of Ikea and have already looked at Ikea.au but any other modern furniture stores would be very interesting to us.

Check out Freedom which is a cross between Ikea and Habitat sort of. Or Fantastic Furniture for cheap furniture packages - you can get some nice wooden bits and pieces from there.

I can think of Nick Scali, and Harvey Norman but as I have not needed to look yet have not taken much notice. David Jones sells furniture too (like John Lewis)

Shopping online hasn't really taken off yet in Australia. To see what stock most places have, you'll have to physically visit the stores. But Freedom does have a good online catalogue if I can remember right.

Oz Design is another modern furniture store. It's a bit cheaper than Freedom and has an online catalog http://www.ozdesignfurniture.com.au.

We've just bought some great furniture from Everyday Living - made from reclaimed pine and some rustic, some traditional and some modern and not slating Ikea but looks better made and longer lasting.

Good luck but like others said nothing beats getting into store and chatting to the sales people, especially if you fancy a bit of bartering!

Thanks everyone, we're trying to get an idea of the prices to help us decide what to ship and what to buy over there. We may bring the two new mattresses but it is unlikely we will bring the frames etc . . .

You should just bring everything. You'll be glad you did later.
