It is basically a public diary of someone who thinks the world cares about what they think and that their lives are so important that the cybercommunity must be made aware of their every life's occurrence.
Worse than a television soap opera.

Does your cynicism stem from the fact that you have actually been into these sites (by choice) and read them (by choice)?
Wonder if such attitude is necessary or fruitful?

This b*ggered up google, whos search algorithm uses (amongst many other things) the number of links to a page, to decide how important that page is , and how high up to place it on your search results. So for a while, when you did a search on something common that might be mentioned in a blog, like say Weather, you'd get 50 blogs as your top fifty results.
Now that was a few years ago, and they've obviously refined the algorithms to get rid of that dross. But to say, 'no one forces you to read it' is like saying if you chuck 50 copies of 'The Sun' at me, and one page of the thing I want, I shouldn't mind. Well, errrmmm... I do
Cheers,
JTL
