Its short for Weblog, a place where people record a diary of their life and thoughts on the web.

There a lots of blogging sites where you can set up a blog as easily as you would register with this forum. Look for Blogging sites, or weblogs in google, you'll find millions!!!

It is basically a public diary of someone who thinks the world cares about what they think and that their lives are so important that the cybercommunity must be made aware of their every life's occurrence.

Worse than a television soap opera.

Surely only read by those that actually are interested? One assumes that they don't send out a www mail forcing everyone to read them.

Does your cynicism stem from the fact that you have actually been into these sites (by choice) and read them (by choice)?

Wonder if such attitude is necessary or fruitful?

The problem with blogs, to get a bit technical for a sec. Is that they quote each other i.e. linking to each others blogs. So one blogger would say he liked another blogger, and another would quote this and so on and so on.

This b*ggered up google, whos search algorithm uses (amongst many other things) the number of links to a page, to decide how important that page is , and how high up to place it on your search results. So for a while, when you did a search on something common that might be mentioned in a blog, like say Weather, you'd get 50 blogs as your top fifty results.

Now that was a few years ago, and they've obviously refined the algorithms to get rid of that dross. But to say, 'no one forces you to read it' is like saying if you chuck 50 copies of 'The Sun' at me, and one page of the thing I want, I shouldn't mind. Well, errrmmm... I do

Cheers,
JTL
