What is the best type of Visa for permanent residence in Australia?
Hello all
We were just wondeirng what is the best type of visa available for UK citizens in Australia? (As my wife who has a skill which makes getting a visa easier than some other skills in AUstralia and the US) was looking at the USA there is the H1 and L1 which are work visas and the problem is that if the company stops trading or she was to be made redundant at any point then we would have to leave the USA and if you have bought a house and made your life in the USA and suddenly have to leave that would be a nightmare and not worth the risk, well she could try and find another US employer who would be willing to sponsor her but chances of that are so so small and I think we would still have to leave the US.
So wondering if Australia has something better than that that maybe only eligible for UK citizens?
She was looking at the "Skilled - Independent (Subclass 189) (Permanent) Help for Skilled - Independent (Subclass 189) (Permanent)"
But what does it mean "Be invited to apply"? who does she need to be invited to apply from?
Also on the list of acceptable skills where it says "Solicitor 271311 SLAA" does this mean someone who is a Qualified Lawyer who can be a Qualified Lawyer from any country?
Hope someone can advise?
thanks all in advance!

Forget the US system, Australia is completely different.
Read through Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189) first and look at all the information on the links. That will tell you how and where she gets her skills assessed, which she needs to do first. Then she can ut in an Expression of Interest, via the same website, and wait for the Immigration dept (DIBP) to invite her to apply.
She should however also be looking into what she would need to do in order to practice law here once she has the visa.
